Perception Is Not Reality - About Sanjay Dalal

I would like to share with you a bit more about me, Sanjay Dalal, and give you some real facts...

1. I am a simple & happy family man, father of two growing children in Irvine, and husband to my wife since 1993 (technically 1992 since we got married in the court). We all moved to Irvine in 2007 from Fremont, CA. I love Turtle Rock, Irvine, where we live. I love my children & wife, relatives, my community, my friends and God. I love peace, happiness and well being for all... For more on my story, go to my website: http://www.sanjaydalal.com

2. I am a software entrepreneur, deeply passionate about collaboration software for social networks. I spend more than 10 hours a day thinking, planning, marketing & growing my latest software launch... oGoing. What's going on? http://www.ogoing.com
Further, I only know about computer software and some computer hardware. I do not have any working or professional knowledge of anything else besides computer software, and that too, mainly collaboration software and services. I do like to teach my children different technologies & always ask them to be curious about the latest cool things including cultures & traditions of their friends & families... just like any parent would do.

3. I launched India Business Network last year (2009) to help grow awareness of Indian professionals & businesses, and also in turn, learn about social networking, and the platform on which India Business Network hosts (Ning). Today, India Business Network has about 4,000 global members. India Business Network is a registered non-profit organization. Go to: http://www.indiabiznet.com to learn more...

4. I have failed many times over as an entrepreneur, including my latest failure... Innovation Index Group that managed Innovation Index Fund in 2008. Innovation Index Fund is closed, and is only supporting remaining 4 investors (May 2010 update - my father is not an investor anymore). All 4 investors are U.S. based, and are all friends based in Orange County & Los Angeles Area (who I have met a few times, and know them on a first name basis). There are no foreign investors, no foreign interest, no partners from any foreign countries / cities such as Dubai, Middle East, Africa, Europe in Innovation Index Fund. I am always learning from the failures such as Innovation Index Group... it only prepares me better for my next startup. Case in point: oGoing :: What's oGoing on? (tm) http://www.ogoing.com

5. Show me the money... First, I was successful in Silicon Valley at two startups that allowed me to be an entrepreneur (from the money I made in Silicon Valley). But I also lost money in the stock market (like everybody else, but probably more than I would like). I make money by selling Business Innovation eBook, Apple Innovation Strategy, Innovation Bootcamp, Internet & Social Media marketing, web & mobile application consulting, and investing in stocks (I enjoy it). This keeps me occupied and very busy all day...

6. I love ABAOC (Asian Business Association of Orange County), and am quite grateful & proud to be a board member. I take this job seriously, and would do everything to make ABAOC shine... this is my commitment to the board. I also love TiE Southern California, Irvine Chamber of Commerce and Dean's Leadership Circle, Paul Merage School of Business, University of California.

7. I am looking for partners for oGoing - Enterprise Social Network... if you or someone you know would like to get on the ground floor of a hot new startup that will potentially be a $100 million plus business in five to ten years, this is your chance. Just ask me for a business plan or executive summary, and I would be happy to share it with you... email me: ceo at innovationmain dot com

I love community development & community service... hence, I am active with my daughter's Turtle Rock School PTA & School Site Council, Rotary Club of Newport-Irvine, and take time to volunteer & promote / donate to charities... I was a basketball coach three times for my son's teams, and an art master for my daughter's class.

In 2005, I found out I had Osteoporosis in my lumbar spine. I have been fighting it since, and have made good progress. I am doing much better now... I started a non-profit in 2007 to raise awareness of this: http://www.osteofoundation.org (you can also read my story there)

Hoping this would clear up any perceptions you may have about me... or not ;-)

Now, let's do some business!!

Sincere regards,
Sanjay Dalal, Entrepreneur

Innovation insights and wisdom from the greatest innovators

"My greatest challenge has been to change the mindset of people. Mindsets play strange tricks on us. We see things the way our minds have instructed our eyes to see." - Muhammad Yunus, Nobel Peace Prize winner, Bangladeshi banker, economist, and innovator of microcredit loans. These microcredit loans are given to entrepreneurs too poor to qualify for traditional bank loans. (It's about time U.S. banks begin to microfinance loans to entrepreneurs who can help turn the economy around.)

In 1976, during visits to the poorest households in the village of Jobra near Chittagong University, Yunus discovered that very small loans could make a disproportionate difference to a poor person. Jobra women who made bamboo furniture had to take out usurious loans for buying bamboo, to pay their profits to the moneylenders. His first loan, consisting of USD 27.00 from his own pocket, was made to 42 women in the village, who made a net profit of BDT 0.50 (USD 0.02) each on the loan. Thus, vastly improving Bangladesh's ability to export and import as it did in the past, resulting in a greater form of globalization and economic status. (Imagine if the Jobra women in Bangladesh can create real product such as bamboo furniture with small loans, what can entrepreneurs do with small loans given out to create new products in energy, environment and education.)

Muhammad Yunus was awarded the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize, along with Grameen Bank (who he founded), for their efforts to create economic and social development. In the prize announcement The Norwegian Nobel Committee mentioned:[1]

"Muhammad Yunus has shown himself to be a leader who has managed to translate visions into practical action for the benefit of millions of people, not only in Bangladesh, but also in many other countries. Loans to poor people without any financial security had appeared to be an impossible idea. From modest beginnings three decades ago, Yunus has, first and foremost through Grameen Bank, developed micro-credit into an ever more important instrument in the struggle against poverty."

Muhammad Yunus is a modern day innovator, who had the foresight and insight to provide opportunities in the form of microcredits to the poor women in Bangladesh, who were anything but poor in their entrepreneurship drive, and aptly turned these microloans into innovations.

An age old innovator, Leonardo Da Vinci, shared his wisdom by telling us: "There are three classes of people: Those who see. Those who see when they are shown. Those who do not see." Innovators foresee. Innovators see beyond the ordinary, and yet have uncanny common sense. Leonardo has often been described as the archetype of the renaissance man, a man whose unquenchable curiosity was equaled only by his powers of invention (1.). Leonardo's approach to science was an observational one: he tried to understand a phenomenon by describing and depicting it in utmost detail, and did not emphasize experiments or theoretical explanation.

Thomas Alva Edison, inventor of the light bulb and phonograph, an innovator unlike any other, and founder of GE, shared this insight: "I never perfected an invention that I did not think about in terms of the service it might give to others." He goes on to say, "The three things that most essential to achievement are common sense, hard work and stick-to-it-iv-ness". And of course, his most famous quote used by magazines and leaders all over the world is: "Genius is one percent inspiration, and ninety-nine percent perspiration." He was one of the first inventors to apply the principles of mass production and large teamwork to the process of invention, and therefore is often credited with the creation of the first industrial research laboratory.

"Think big, think fast, think ahead. Ideas are no one's monopoly," is a famous quote by an entrepreneur from India, credited with the modernisation of Indian textile and petrochemical industry, and whose rags to riches story has made him a cult figure in the minds of Indian people. Dhirubhai Ambani, founder of Vimal, Reliance Textiles and Reliance Commercial Corporation, is an innovator behind the multi-billion dollar Reliance Industries in India. Mr. Ambani, who began his occupation with a salary of Rs. 300 (about $7), grew his business by taking risks, building inventories, anticipating price rise, and reaping profits. In the year 1975, a Technical team from the World Bank visited the Reliance Textiles' Manufacturing unit, certified as "excellent even by developed country standards" during that period. "Pursue your goals even in the face of difficulties, and convert adversities into opportunities." - Ambani never gave in or gave up during his storied entrepreneurship career and always thought BIG, and forever inspired Indians to become modern day innovators.

Innovations necessitate lots of failed experiments and hard work to uncover the latent customer need. Innovations require processes to think creatively, ideate and experiment. Build an Innovation Factory, Learn to be an Innovator, Launch new Innovations by downloading the Innovation Resource Kit

Free Small Business Consultant For Leominster, Fitchburg, And Worcester MA

By Luis Galarza - Affiliate Marketing Secret Training Guide Blog

I'm Your Free Small Business Consultant For The City Of Leominster, Fitchburg, and Worcester MA (Massachusetts)! For Business Beginners, New Entrepreneurs, And All Local Small Business Owners Looking For Advice, Luis Galarza Is Here For You!

This post is for all the entrepreneurs and small business owners living in the city of Leominster, and Fitchburg MA and any of the neighbors towns like Worcester, Shirley, Clinton, Ayer, etc... I will be offering completely free small business consulting and advice to business beginners, business owners, and entrepreneurs looking to start a new venture.

It doesn't matter what type of business are in or looking to get into, I can help you decide build a powerful development and distribution strategy, I can give you with analysis to see if your business can profit from Internet marketing practices, how to make money online, and much more.

Here is a list of the type of help you and your small business can get from me:
- Business or Product Idea Brainstorming.
- Business Organization Tips.
- Business Plan Critique.
- Budgeting.
- Marketing Program Planning Critique.
- And more...

Also ask how can you get custom market research and business report like:
- Business Planning Advice
- Idea Profit Potential Analysis
- Distribution Methods Overview
- Branding And PR
- Competition Analysis
- Marketing Strategies
- Custom Resources List
- USP or Unique Selling Proposition Analysis
- Free and Low Cost Marketing Tactics
- And much more...

I know how hard is to start a local small business in Fitchburg MA, which for many of local marketers is the hardest place in Massachusetts for small business start-ups, but this doesn't take the lucrative potential that this small city has... and if I can help you begin a company in Fitchburg, places like Leominster and Worcester MA is a walk in the park, even in down economy times like right now. But, you still need to know how to turn your business into a profit making machine unless you are planning to start a no-profit organization, and even then you need to know how to market your services right and how to acquire donations and grands from the Government and local businesses.

Small Business Myth That Any Beginner or Current Entrepreneur Need To Erase From Their Minds To Ensure Success.
- Open your doors and they will come, give them a phone number and they will call, etc.
No they won't... if you don't have a good marketing program or strategy in place nobody knows your business exist until you advertise.

- I don't need a business plan, I know exactly what to do.
No having a business plan is planning for failure! You don't need a 50 pages business plan, but you need a detail road map of each of the steps that you are going to make to achieve your business goals.

- After I start my business I going to begin reading about marketing and all those things.
Bad idea... Off course that learning new strategies that can work for the growth of your company is a must. But, I recommend you to learn as much as you can before jumping into any type of business, specially if your new start-up requires you to invest a lot of money.

- I going to split my time fifty-fifty for the company operations and marketing.
Wrong way to spend your valuable time... You should spend more time in growing your company's revenue and customer base. This mean that you should dedicate 80% of your time or more to marketing and advertising.

- I don't need a business consultant, I just ask any of my friends and family members tips for my company.
Asking your family and friends what they think about your business, product, or idea is a good way to see what people other than yourself think about the type of product or service you are selling or want to sell. But, you cannot take business advice from those non-business owners or people that don't have an entrepreneur mind.

Who This Free Small Business Consultation Is For?
- For any local resident who want to start or grow a business.

- For entrepreneurs looking to bounce of ideas with another entrepreneur.

- For busy business owners who want to update their business strategy.

- For new start-ups.

- For entrepreneurs with low or no investment capital.

I also offer audio marketing training, Internet marketing eclasses, Internet marketing training, SEO or Search Engine Optimization & marketing, affiliate marketing couching, and more. Remember what Bill Gates said about the web as a business marketplace...

Google Toolbar Overwriting 404 Error Pages

By Luis Galarza - Affiliate Marketing Secret Training Guide Blog

Yeah, It's True... Google Toolbar Is Overwriting 404 Error Pages All Over The Web. For Some People This Doesn't Mean Anything. But, For Online Marketers Means That Google Is Stylling Part Of Your Virtual Real Estate Which Can Be Use For Integrated Marketing Practices!

This is a big bad marketing push from Google that is actually taking online marketers virtual real estate that can be use to market their products, for advertising sales, and others... How bad is the news about Microsoft buying Yahoo that makes Google get into bad Internet marketing practices, to push their brand in front of their Toolbar users.

I came across this Internet marketing news about Google title "Google's Toolbar Reportelly Overwriting 404 Pages Across The Web", and got me thinking about the "why?" that is making the company that fights against "Web Spam" is now applying web spam strategies to get more brand exposure and to send Internet users to their search engine site.

And this is not the only thing I don't like about their online business methods, but the fact that by doing what they doing, it's taking traffic for online entrepreneurs, it's also taking your virtual real estate, and your opportunity of monetizing those pages.

Here is what the post said:
"Reports are that when you install the toolbar and surf to a 404 page, a page not found, Google will replace the 404 page with their own page.

I have not tested this myself, because I am on a Mac and this is an issue with a Windows toolbar. I do not know if it affects all 404 pages, both default 404 pages and custom 404 pages or just default 404 pages. In any event, this is what Google uses to replace your 404 page:"

Google need to stop this right away!

Marketing Basics That Internet Marketers Should Know Today

By Luis Galarza - Affiliate Marketing Secret Training Guide Blog

I always like to start my blog post with a little introduction paragraph about the content or the final lesson inside the articles, but this time I want to quote a little phrase spoken by a Internet marketing genius in one of his ebooks, he specialize in Affiliate marketing, his name is Ewen Chia.

"It doesn't matter if you've the best products, biggest list or most traffic. You still fail if you don't know the basics of good old fashion marketing... you'll still stumble if you can't connect with your market... you'll still waste your efforts if you don't push the hot buttons that make people BUY your products."

You can find the rest of this phrase and all the marketing information that this ebook and the rest of Ewen Chia affiliate marketing membership has by subscribing to his site for only $9.99. Personally, I think he is crazy because he offers so much information, access to his private blog, and high quality bonuses to his members for so little... But, that's the way to do it, that's why I completely recommend you to sign up. Plus, you just learn another powerful marketing lesson, which is:

"Always Over Deliver, Always Provide Some Of The Best Information Or Offer You Have, And Eventually You Will Make A Lot Of Money Front Those That Trust In Your Knowledge And Products!" By Luis Galarza :)

I guess this is a good subject for another article or blog post...

Before I forget, Ewen Chia affiliate marketing membership site and ebook:

- "Affiliate Secret Weapon" (excellent for new marketers)
- Also check "Super Affiliate Course" (advanced affiliate marketing)

Back to my main subject "Marketing basics that Internet marketers should know."

Everyone from business experts to new entrepreneurs know that marketing is one of the most difficult parts of any business online or offline, for that reason many people buy different types of marketing books and ebooks (electronic or digital books) that hopefully explain practical strategies that really work in a way that is easy for them to understand.

When you developing a marketing program or writing a marketing plan for your online business, to ensure it success make sure your program is:

- Organized
- Systematic
- Goals Base On Customer Demands

Organized
You need to have a step-by-step plan that fill your day with tasks that will increase your customer base and sales while maintaining a good budget control (of money and time). Also, is good to have deadlines on each part of your project to increase effectiveness.

Systematic
Your marketing program have to be programmable specially on the Internet which is a always changing communication channel, needs to be easy to track and analyse. Also, this means that your plan becomes a system that anyone in your company can follow.

Goals Base On Customer Demands
Don't confuse your online business goals with your marketing goals. Your business goals are exactly what you want your company to achieve, while your marketing goals need to focus on what your target customers want or need, and if you deliver on their demands you will achieve your company goals, too.

All this ingredients are very important because is your job as a marketer to find customers, motivate them to purchase your products, and then motivate them again to repeat a purchase or to buy one of your up-sell offers which can be an affiliate program product or one of your own. This process can be easy if you build a marketing system that is customer demand goal oriented and well organized.

So, What's marketing for you?
As you may know marketing is the soul of every business online or offline... and just you can also go to Google, Yahoo or any of the top search engines and look for what Wikipedia or online dictionaries have to say about the meaning of marketing... but, that's not what I mean, and just to save you the trouble here is what Wikipedia say about marketing:

"Marketing is a societal process that is needed to discern consumers' wants; focusing on a product/service to those wants, and to mould the consumers towards the products/services. Marketing is fundamental to any businesses growth. The marketing teams (Marketers) have the task to create the consumer awareness of the products/services through marketing techniques; unless it pays due attention to its products/services and consumers' demographics and desires, a business will not usually prosper long-term."

Maybe I had to reword my question, because what I mean is: What your customers think about your marketing strategies? I ask you this, because the best way to know how customers want to be approach in a specific market is by asking them and by collecting research data from different sources.

You can use polls, surveys, top search keyword research, etc. You need to collect as much data as you can, analyze it and change your marketing plan to better find your customers or take a Web 2.0 or social media marketing approach and let them find you.

In simple words, you need to see your marketing from your customers eyes.

What marketing can do for your online business?
A good organized, systematic, and customer demands focus marketing program can find your target customers, motivate them to buy, and re-buy your product or service. For many entrepreneurs this can be a hard task... you have to find a good amount of qualify prospects, them some how you need to convince them to purchase what you offer, then help them understand the use of it, and then you need to compel them to purchase again.

OK, I want you to take a look a your marketing plan, program or system or just simple look a what you are doing now to increase your web traffic and sales. Please answer this questions about your marketing plan:

1.- Are testing different sales copy and ad formats to see which one perform better?

2.- Are you presenting your offer in an fashionable way to the right prospects?

3.- Is your web site, blog or landing page copywriting effective enough to make them take action now? (buy, opt-in, call, subscribe)

4.- Are you helping them to understand what to do next? (use your service or product, login to learn more, check their email for the free course or coupon, have a notepad and pen when calling)

5.- Are you using fire back end sales strategies to compel them to purchase again?

6.- Are you tracking the results of each marketing campaign?

7.- Are you trashing what doesn't work and mastering what does?

"Absolutely Red Hot" Growth in Indian Business: Ravi Venkatesan - Chairman Microsoft India - at TiEcon 2007

Ravi Venkatesan is the chairman of Microsoft India, and is responsible for Microsoft's marketing, operational and business development efforts in India. Venkatesan provides a single point of leadership for Microsoft in all of India. Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT) is one of the top 20 innovators of The Innovation Index.

Venkatesan delivered a keynote presentation at the recently concluded TiEcon 2007 in Santa Clara, California and shared with the audience of entrepreneurs, CEOs and venture capitalists the opportunities for growth and innovation in India.

And why not? The current annual Indian GDP growth is 9% and is showing no signs of slowdown, Indian business has unprecedented access to capital, Indian innovation and entrepreneurship is booming, Indian business is riding a wave of "incredible confidence", over 100 Indian corporations have market capitalization of over $1 billion, Indian IT exports are poised to grow 30% to 35% yearly, major multi-nationals have made multi-billion dollar investments in India, Indian manufacturing, retail, real estate and exports are becoming bell-weathers - Venkatesan calls this current state and growth of economy and business in India as "absolutely red hot."

Venkatesan believes there is abundant opportunity in every market sector that is facing big societal problems with "For Profit" business models. India is a "nation to be built" and hence is directing huge amounts of capital, resources and manpower to meet the needs of this unprecedented growth that he compares to "19th century America".

Venkatesan outlined six major opportunities in industries that are showing the highest potential for growth and innovation in India since they have "huge societal problems":

1. Communications - led by mobile, broadband, VoIP, SMS and more by innovators such as Ambanis of Reliance and Bharati. The cell phone has become ubiquitous in India, and everyone from a businessman, taxi driver, to a vegetable "laari waala" is using cell phone for business and entertainment.

2. Energy - with growth in renewable energy, green energy, solar energy, nuclear power, and more led by innovators such as Tanti - who started with 2 windmills and has now grown his company into a major energy powerhouse.

3. Water - led by access to pure drinking water which is a huge healthcare problem in villages, especially when the cost of water is 11 rupees a bottle, and the cost of treatment from healthcare problems resulting from drinking adulterated water is growing.

4. Healthcare - with 100s of millions of people seeking better and longer health, a large segment of aging population, foreign residents seeking better healthcare solutions in India creating a new market of "medical tourism", led by corporations such as Apollo, Ranbaxy, Fortis and more

5. Agriculture - with new innovations in delivering fresh food and focus on end-to-end supply chain led by companies such as Reliance Fresh, and through access to micro-finance for Indian farmers and agriculture companies.

6. Education - with focus on English and IT, leadership and employability, skill gaps and K-12 - despite the high GDP growth, a large percentage of India is still illiterate and requires bold initiatives led by state and national government and private entrepreneurs. For instance, can education tutorials be delivered through cell phones as an online service, especially when cell phones are being used by the largest segment of the population.

Venkatesan quipped that the biggest problem Microsoft has is that a majority of the SMB and consumer market does not want to pay for software. He provided some examples on how Microsoft has used creativity, flexible service-based business model and customer focused solution approach to address some of the IT problems facing small business and pharmaceutical industry in Tirupur and Ahmadabad.

Finally, Venkatesan provided four key takeaways for entrepreneurs who want to seize the Indian opportunity:

1. Address huge societal problems with For-Profit business models and focus on your most significant challenge, and "inclusive growth."

2. Don't forget entrepreneurship 101 - obsess about your consumer or the customer, and do rigorous thinking.

3. "Think Big, Start Small, Scale Fast" - Venkatesan quoted Mukesh Ambani's mantra of growth that every entrepreneur should follow.

4. Talent. Talent. Talent. Hire the best and the smartest people who have a strong sense of purpose and believe in the larger mission of the company.

Venkatesan's presentation style was extemporaneous and to the point, without any slides, straight from the gut. His experience with the Indian industry was without a doubt. His poise, panache, and no-nonsense conviction made for an audience of entrepreneur believers who couldn’t wait to hop on to the next plane to India in search of new opportunities.

Innovation and Leadership lessons from Meg Whitman, eBay CEO and President, and top Innovator

eBay CEO and President Meg Whitman, in her keynote presentation on the morning of the second day of TiEcon 2007, May 19, not only provided a historical overview of eBay and provided insights on how eBay is positioning adroitly for the future, but also shared real world lessons on Business, Innovation, Leadership and more.

Here are nuggets of wisdom from Meg Whitman shared with the TiEcon attendees and entrepreneurs:

What are the Five things People do online:

Find, Buy, Sell, Communicate, Entertain

eBay focuses on three of these five things:

Buy, Sell, Communicate

What are the Six Business Lessons that Whitman has learnt at eBay:

1. Enable our customers; we do not direct. For example, eBay Motors.

2. It's all about the customer experience.

3. Level the playing field as often as you can.

4. Make size a business advantage.

5. Disruptive ideas are vital - find them from inside and outside.

6. Constant Innovation within the company is imperative.

What are the Five Principles that drive Innovation at eBay:

1. Innovation is a mindset. We strive to ensure that everyone in the company is focused on Innovation.

2. Innovation is in the DNA. We build new products with Innovation from the inside-out.

3. Cannibalization does not scare us. We would rather cannibalize ourselves than someone else cannibalizing us.

4. Some people are gifted disruptive innovators. We call them "Baby Tigers". We make it a point to nurture them and give them the room to succeed.

5. There can only be so much structure to creating innovations. We are always open to new ideas and serendipitous finds.

In the past five years, eBay has embarked new innovations through:

1. PayPal acquisition - and the online payment solution

2. C2C Classifieds all over the world

3. Online Shopping through Shopping.com

4. Skype acquisition - the largest provider of Voice over IP solution in the world

eBay has always kept strong focus on the core auction business though and has created innovations in the core auction business; for example, eBay Motors, Fixed Price model, integration of PayPal with eBay Auctions.

What are the Seven Personal Lessons on leadership that Whitman espouses:

1. Hire the right person for the right job at the right time and who has the right values. "I cannot stress this enough"

2. Reorganize early and often. Transform change and uncertainty into opportunity.

3. Hire ahead of the curve. For example, get someone with experience who has managed larger businesses so that he or she can help you grow to that size.

4. Focus. Focus. Focus. Vision + Strategy + Execution.

5. Mission motivates. We are in the business to make a difference for our customers, and every employee should be passionate about this.

6. Get out and about enough. This is where new ideas that generate game-changing innovations can happen.

7. There is no compromise for Integrity. Whenever you say something or are making a decision, what if your kids, brother, sister or parents were also present? Would you do that?

Whitman also answered several questions from the audience (the questions were beamed using SMS). Here were a couple of questions and answers:

1. How do you achieve Balance?

Maintain focus on the Core Business - 70% of our resources are allocated here.

Rest of the company is focused on Adjacent Business, Planting Seeds, and creating new Innovations.

The business must keep itself informed of the key consumer trends, and always work towards "ease-of-use" for our customers.

2. What do you worry about the most?

Changing environment, and our ability to keep track, staying informed, and taking smart risks. The cost of "not doing anything" or inaction is huge. We would rather do something and have an answer, even though it may not be the right one, instead of waiting and not doing anything.

We want to make sure we maintain a 0.60 batting average. Training and Development of our employees and customers is essential for success.

Bottomline:

Meg Whitman is one of the most successful women CEOs of our generation, having grown eBay from tens of millions in revenue to a multi-billion dollar global corporation. Whitman is a charismatic leader and an innovator. Her energy, passion, wit and leadership were in full flow at the TiEcon 2007. The audience was enlightened during her presence, however felt a gaping hole soon after her presentation got over, longing for more of her infectious wisdom and insights.

Winners do quit, and quitters do win...do they? (and ten questions)

"It's a mind grenade, a little bit of insight that will help you see what's causing your organization (or you) to get stuck.

Here's the official description:
The old saying is wrong-winners do quit, and quitters do win.

Every new project (or job, or hobby, or company) starts out exciting and fun. Then it gets harder and less fun, until it hits a low point-really hard, and not much fun at all. And then you find yourself asking if the goal is even worth the hassle.

Maybe you're in a Dip-a temporary setback that will get better if you keep pushing. But maybe it's really a Cul-de-Sac, which will never get better, no matter how hard you try.

What really sets superstars apart from everyone else is the ability to escape dead ends quickly, while staying focused and motivated when it really counts.

Winners quit fast, quit often, and quit without guilt-until they commit to beating the right Dip for the right reasons. In fact, winners seek out the Dip. They realize that the bigger the barrier, the bigger the reward for getting past it. If you can become number one in your niche, you'll get more than your fair share of profits, glory, and long-term security.

Losers, on the other hand, fall into two basic traps: Either they fail to stick out the Dip-they get to the moment of truth and then give up-or they never even find the right Dip to conquer." - The DIP.

List of quitters who went on to become winners:

Jeff Foxworthy, John Legend, Enzo Ferrari, Scott Clark, Gandhi, Tom Peters, Shea Gunther, Ernie Mosteller, Francis Crick, Bill Gates, Ray Kroc, Howard Stern, Francis Obikwelu, Dave Ramsey, Suze Orman, Harrison Ford, John Piper, Willem de Kooning, Jill Konrath, John Grisham, Jeff Bezos, Michael Bloomberg, Shawn Carter, Rowan Manahan, Ralph Roberts, Dan Schapiro, and even Apple, home of the Newton and the Apple III (and Michael Dell).

The DIP is a little book about quitting by Seth Godin. Godin is a bestselling author, entrepreneur and agent of change.

I am fascinated by the subject matter, and I have to say that everyone of us has The DIP spirit within us. At times, we have to really dig deep to find an answer to The DIP. For most of us, The DIP happens to us - the circumstances, the environment, the management, the timing, etc., and then we try to find an answer to The DIP. Is this too late?

Godin tells us to instead make The DIP happen. Many questions arise: Do winners quit fast, quit often and quit without guilt? Does this mean winners don't seek out solutions to every problem they face? Or winners are focused on finding answers to the most difficult problems? Winners have an innate ability to escape dead ends quickly, and staying focused and motivated when it really counts, all keys to conquering The DIP. I believe most leaders will agree with this.

Perhaps The DIP is trying to find the common thread among some of the biggest winners we have come to know and admire; however, for every winner (and a quitter) on The DIP list, I'm sure there are many more winners who did not quit and still won. The DIP is not a recipe to quit what you're doing and begin a new quest; rather, to dig deep and find answers to the toughest problems you may face. If you do end up conquering them, success will be yours.

Update:

Guy Kawasaki has published an excellent post on The Big Dip: Ten Questions with Seth Godin

Here are the ten questions Kawasaki asked Godin on The Dip (to find the detailed answers, go to Guy's blog):

GK Question #1: Other than hindsight, how does someone know when it’s time to quit?
SG Answer #1: It’s time to quit.....

GK Question #2: If I’m in the middle of a dip, how do I know if it’s worth gutting it out to get to the other side?
SG Answer #2: The best time to ask this question is .....

GK Question #3: Is there a place for the intrinsic value of learning a skill—for example, playing hockey or the violin—even though you know you won’t be the best in the world?
SG Answer #3: Mastery is an addiction.....

GK Question #4: What if the market is not established so there’s no way to know if it even exists and if it’s worth dedicating/rededicating to?
SG Answer #4: Here’s the art of being an entrepreneur....

GK Question #5: How can a company quit a product and not give the incorrect signal that it’s quitting the market?
SG Answer #5: Tactics change all the time.....

GK Question #6: What’s more powerful: a short-term pain or long-term gain?
SG Answer #6: The power of quitting is that it empowers you....

GK Question #7: Do most companies quit too early or try too long?
SG Answer #7: Lucky for us, it’s both....

GK Question #8: Should Microsoft quit the MP3 player market?
SG Answer #8: I thought they already did.....

GK Question #9: Should Apple quit the personal computer market?
SG Answer #9: Apple has already crossed that Dip, big time.....

GK Question #10: Should America quit the Iraq War?
SG Answer #10: My opinion doesn’t matter.....

TRAFFIC TIPS: My No B.S. Review to the New "The Death Of Internet Marketing" Free Report

By Luis Galarza

Hi again,

Today I want to give you Luis Galarza's personal review about a new Internet marketing free report that is getting all online marketers and entrepreneurs planning or re-thinking their way they do Internet marketing and web money making business. Internet marketing guru and expert in viral marketing and opt-in list building Mr. Mike Filsaime, the creator of the Butterfly Marketing report and website scripts, has released a "controversial" free report called The Death of Internet Marketing. (Why every Internet marketing guru is talking about Death? We may need a Internet Marketing hospital for this death reports!) In his 58-page document, Mike describes why todays marketing methods for the Internet marketing niche — not for the whole Internet marketing industry, but the niche of people who are Internet marketing money opportunity seekers— are failing. The basic problem is that almost all marketers are promoting the same group of people, who are feeling overwhelmed by all the product launches and specials being offered by Internet marketers on all their newsletters or ezines. And it looks like all the Internet gurus are friends with each other, doesn't it? Or this is just part of their Internet marketing strategies...

It's that people are overwhelmed with all the Internet marketing information available, isn't it? As more and more entrepreneurs discover industries like AdSense and affiliate marketing, more and more marketers have plowed into the market, teaching people various methods of making more money with Internet marketing. You can tell this has been happening because many marketers are going from e-books formats to videos or audios. And this shows that they are trying to pick sales from the big pool which is less willing to buy or more scared to get into the Internet marketing world.

Anyways, Mike's free report gives you internet marketing tactics to follow if you want to "survive" in 2007. As you know I don't call myself a Internet Marketing guru, but maybe he's right about this. I recommend you to read the part of the report where he tells his story about the legal problems he ran into when he bought resale rights to a couple of products, that is something for you can learn.

This "The Death Of Internet Marketing" report has been released with the porpose to build Mike a bigger mailing list, of course. That's why he's paying affiliates $1 for each new sign-up, which is not bad for a lead generating affiliate marketing campaign.

So, I recommend you take a little break from what ever it is you are doing if you can and get access to this report ASAP. Click here.

To your success,

Luis Galarza,

PS -This free Internet marketing report will only be available for a few weeks at most so do not delay and your copy and let me know what you think...

TRAFFIC TIP: Natural Search Engine Traffic Is Not Dead!

By Luis Galarza

In fact the last Search Engine research test made by Google shows that web surfers eyes focus first on the results from the natural search and PPC, Sponsors Links, or Adword's are the last to be view by Internet surfers...

Dear Marketer,

Natural Search Engine generates most of the web targeted traffic that top websites get. Well, look like net surfers don't pay attention to PPC or Adword's until they check all the results generated by Natural Search. Now the top 3 or 5 natural links get most of the attention, but even the links at the end of the search results page get far more attention that the PPC ads.

Don't get me wrong, PPC advertising work... But if you spend some time on SEO (Search Engine Optimization) to build your Natural Search Engine top position for your website you can save a TON of your money and get massive targeted traffic to your web site, and as you may know: Targeted Traffic means Sales, and Sales mean Profit!

Actually, me and Anna Phommatham just finished writing a new report that teach how to get on the top results of the search engines no matter if you have no content, no meta tags, no title, no headline, and even if your site is just a image, multimedia, or flash... I will post the link where you can get your own copy of this secret report later this week...

Conclusion: Who cares what Gurus said! Natural Search Engine is way better than PPC and almost any other way to bring high quality targeted traffic to your web site... I recommend you to start some kind of viral marketing campaign, because this can help you generate targeted visitors to your web site while your working on optimizing your sites to gain the power of Natural Search Engine traffic... The easiest viral marketing campaign that you can start is giving away your own viral ebook with quality information and encourage people to pass it on to their friends.

To Your Success,

Luis Galarza

P.S. If you asking yourself, is there a better, faster, and quicker way to generate traffic, my own opti-in list, and make money online? Well, there are two system that I strongly recommend that doesn't required you to have your own product NOTE: You need a small investment on each: One is the Viral Marketing Experiment which is excellent to build a mailing list and market others people products (Warning: This one works really fast and can have you bank call you to ask you if you doing anything iligal). The second one is the Freedom Income System this one help you launch your own niche information product and they help you make at least $10,000 in 90 days or they pay you $500 dollars just for trying their system.

MONEY TIPS: Make Money Even If You Product Don't Sale...

By Luis Galarza, Easy Web Traffic and Money Making Tips

Hi Netpreneurs,

So you have a nice design web site, prepare to take orders, with a "Good" sales copy but your product still not selling enough or not selling anything at all... You try everything, do regular changes, cool stuff to try to make your site more sticky, you send solo ads to other newsletter subscribers, send 1,000's of top sponsor ezine ads, buy 1,000,000 unique visitors, join all the free or paid traffic exchange services, and still no sales!

So what can you do to produce some Cash Flow even if your product is not pulling sales. Here are some of the things you can do to add more income opportunities to your web site:

  1. Start building your own opt-in email list of subscribers, by putting a opt-in form at the beginning of your sales page (after your headline, sub-headline, and intro), on the middle, and at the end. To get subscribers faster offer a free course, free ebook, free consultation, free the first 3 chapters (if your product is a ebook), free demo version (if your product is a software). Then provide good content to your list and start promoting and recommending related affiliate products.
  2. Play the adsense game the smart way, meaning depending on what you are selling, you can put some adsense at the bottom and middle or on the side bars of your web page don't put them at the top, you don't want to look desperate for money. If you can use a adsense clocker so your site can stay on search engines longer.
  3. Recommend affiliate programs related to your niche: Do not put banners between your sales letter, let your sales letter do what it suppose to do, SELL! The best way to do this is by creating a side bar on your web page and say something like "We Also Recommend:". Forget about small banners, just ad a small headline or title ad (Headlines are the most important part of your sales letter), the product picture, and maybe a little description. Or just ad a little text ad link (like an adword), this works really good...
  4. Another way is to related your product to affiliate companies that already using the techniques that you are teaching, this work really good for online courses, ebooks, and software. Plus, this can help you sell your actual product because your visitors can see others using the techniques your about to teach them...

On my newsletter I teach two more powerful ways to integrate affiliate links on your web page that can give you instant sales even if your visitor leaved your web site...

Now if your product is not selling maybe you're marketing to the wrong niche. Remember that to make it on any business you need to present your offer to the right target market. Learning how to find and sell to desperate buyers is the business key to the success of the biggest companies in the world. Because successful businesses are base on promoting your service or product to a Hungry Crow...

Is your time to find yours...

To Your Success,

Luis Galarza

MONEY: Can You Make $1000 in 48 Hours to Save Your Family?

By Luis Galarza "The Success Guy" Blog

This was a case study made by top marketing expert and business lawyer Mr. Shawn Casey (Co-founder of The Millionaire Of The Month Club), well the thing he did was asking to 15 of the best Internet Marketing Masters, how they will make $1000 in 48 hours? If terrorist have their families and the only thing they get is a phone line, a computers, Internet access, and a pre-paid visa card with only $200 limit. But, to make it even harder, they need to act like they don't nothing about Internet Marketing, and they have no opt-in list, no business, no product. And they only have 48 hours to make $1000 in net profit...

Shawn Casey did this case study to put together a report that can help people in need to make money now, not 3 months from now... The Desperate For Money Report is a excellent source of information for anyone who needs to make money fast. Because when you desperate for cash you need to something that can work for you and an produce profit right away specially if the live of your family depends on it. That's exactly what I did after I left my last job, I knew what to do but my mind was comfortable in a regular job. But, when I left I decide that I will never work for someone again, and I didn't even look for a job... I focus on my knowledge about Internet Marketing and direct marketing and apply it to my current business. And it worked!

Like the popular rapper Fifty Cent said "Get Rich Or Die Trying", as soon it's legal :-)

I was amazed with the information in the Shawn Casey "Desperate For Money" Report. Because has no B.S. it's all pure quick step by step business ideas that can generate $1000 or more in less than 48 hours... I truly recommend it.

If you know me already, I never write reviews or critiques if I didn't think that will help my readers on their road to a successful business life. And this is not really a Desperate For Money review, it's just a quick note of recommendation for those who are desperate for quick money to pay bills or just to get started on the Online business world fast and with a very low budget.

Hope this can help you...

To Your Success,

Luis Galarza

MONEY TIPS: Did You Finish Your School Shopping for 2006?

By Luis Galarza "The Success Guy" Blog

Hey Dear Internet Marketer,

Maybe You Did. But, How Many Of Your Potential Customers Didn’t!

What I’m going with this is that a lot of small businesses end their “School Shopping Promotions” to soon or they just plan a one single promotion for the whole month, or simply they market a short promotion for part of the this super sale event… Remember, you need to market to today consumers like you’re marketing to kids, don’t forget that “THE CONSTANT CHANGE” strategy is one of the most powerful marketing methods to keep your customers and prospects to come back or keep checking on your company to see WHAT’S NEW?

A great way to have a successful Month of August Sales Event is by having a super sales day one the first days of the month, have a general monthly promotion, and then run a different promotion every single week until the first days of September.

Do not run the same kind of promotion every week, every single campaign have to be unique (Constant Change Strategy).

So, seat back down and plan a last Back to School sales event to get some of those customers that still in the look out for school sales bargains…

But, what if you don’t sale nothing related to school goods (supplies, computers, clothes, etc.). Well my marketer friends, it’s always a way! For example, a friend of mine Yanik the CEO of Surefire Marketing, a company that sells Internet marketing products, implement a unique idea for promoting his company to his mailing list by sending a email campaign saying that he’s was happy about his daughter going back to school that want to share his joy with clients by providing a one time 24 sales promotion link that would let everyone to purchase any of his products at a special one time discount…

And you know what this campaign generate ton of sales…

So, use your imagination, be creative and test, test, test…

All the best,

Luis Galarza
