Catholics and NFL Teams
Ok, so although I don't agree 100% with their ultimate conclusion... the The American Catholic has posted a rather humorous exploration of all the NFL teams, and gives their thoughts and reasons as to where Catholics should place their rooting effort.
Here are a few excerpts:
Here are a few excerpts:
Baltimore Ravens: The Ravens got their name from an Edgar Allen Poe poem. While passing over the sissy nature of poetry for the moment, the poem reportedly revels in the repetition of the word “Nevermore.” This is merely a promotion of hopelessness, which the Holy Father has warned us seriously against and must be rejected.Hehe... kinda funny right?
Indianapolis Colts: The symbol of the Colts is a horseshoe. This is a common trinket among the superstitious. As superstition is merely another form of paganism, it must be rejected by Catholics.
San Diego Chargers: To name your team after something that simply replenishes your battery power for laptops or phones suggests either an over-emphasis on technology that or an embrace of lameness. Seriously, who wants to plug in their phone and think “that’s the name of my football team.” Catholics are not lame and therefore not Chargers fans.
Detroit Lions: While I don’t think anyone still lives in Detroit, Lion eat Christians. That’s what they did in Rome, and that’s what they do to Catholics unwary enough to slip into their trap.
New Format Launch: Catholic Dads Online
For those of you that haven't visited CatholicDadsOnline.org in a while, you should go check it out. As of yesterday, it has launched the new format for the website and it is looking really nice. There are new colors, a new logo, featured writers, and a new editorial policy. What does this mean? It means better content, more frequent and regular updating, and regular featured columns that enable readers to read their favorite writers on a more consistent schedule.
Here is the launch post describing some of the new changes:
Here is the launch post describing some of the new changes:
Catholic Dads has undergone a site change. More accurately, it is undergoing site changes that began at the end of July and will continue as we seek to improve. So please go check out CatholicDadsOnline.org and make sure you read the Battle Ready Feature which posts on Tuesdays.
Content Changes
At the end of July and beginning of August we made two changes. First, instituted an editorial process to more effectively publish articles (e.g., spacing time of publishing, editorial help). Second, we launched a series of featured columns that have been quite successful. These were just the beginning.
Look for new content features ahead . These will include an “Ask A Catholic Dads” section, with theologically sound responses from informed Catholic Dads. We will also incorporate a section that highlights content of interest to Catholic Dads from other sources online. We are seeking to provide a more active review and recommendation section. Other ideas are also in the works.
Visual Changes (including the new logo)
The current modifications are more visual. These changes also started in August with greater incorporation of images into posts. This has evolved into creating a more visually engaging site. The current design provides room on the front page for more information and features (coming soon). Do look for changes in the sidebars in the weeks to come.
Part of the visual change was a new logo – the shield at the top of the page. This shield was designed with symbols representing fatherhood, marriage and Catholicism. It is a shield, which signifies a father’s duty to defend both his family and his faith. It is blue, because that is the color of our Blessed Mother. The CD are the Catholic Dads initials. The keys in the upper right represent the Pope, and demonstrate our Catholic loyalty. The two rings in the lower left represent marriage. The fleur de lis (a lily) is here a symbol of St. Joseph, foster father to Jesus and spouse to Mary. Finally, the Sacred Heart is at the center of the shield, just as Christ must be at the center of our lives.
