My Proposal to IUSD - Irvine Unified School District - for Cost Savings and Revenue Opportunities

From: Sanjay Dalal, Entrepreneur
Sent: Monday, March 01, 2010 8:32 PM
To: Vanessa Lewis; Carla Cashman; Jodi Field; Tammy Smecker-Hane; Mike Kathleen; Karen Catabijan; Yan Zhu; Elise Lee; Tina Zhao- PTA Historian 2009-2010
Cc: Sanjay Dalal,Entrepreneur; LaRae Cunningham
Subject: My Suggestions to IUSD

Dear PTA Board Members:

Here are a few suggestions I made today at the IUSD website (this is the only time I have made online suggestion to IUSD). Hoping IUSD team will take a look at them...

Three Cost Saving Programs

1. Seek Corporate Sponsors for various utilities where IUSD spends monthly amounts - Water, Electricity, Gas, Trash, etc. Ask for Corporate Sponsors to support us for the utilities.
2. Seek unpaid Teacher Volunteers (certified) to fill in and help Classroom Teachers. These teacher volunteers could be retired teachers, or certified candidates who are seeking employment with IUSD. The Teacher Volunteer program can be a training program for would be new teachers. We can use such volunteers to fill in for Furlough days and also help teachers during regular school days.
3. Allow PTA to directly help for the Personnel. PTA can provide financial support to hire more teacher assistants, teacher helpers, teacher volunteers, etc. to help alleviate the classroom size.

Cost Savings

1. Allows significant cost savings from all the utility bills.
2. Allows significant cost savings by leveraging volunteers.
3. Allows cost savings by utilizing existing PTA monies.

Revenue Opportunities

1. IUSD has been a model school district for dozens of years, and IUSD schools have been model and distinguished schools in Orange County and California.
Create a Case Study, Training Program and Development on how IUSD became one of the best school districts in all of California - and sell this program to school districts across California & beyond who are looking to improve their schools.

2. Provide more ways for corporations to partner with schools - at least at the high school level - so that we can leverage more corporate dollars. How to do this? For example, have Taco Bell come and deliver presentations on healthy eating, and how Taco Bell helps. Same with Subway and more... Corporations get face time with high school students (their customers), and IUSD gets sponsorship dollars... In short, find more creative ways for Corporations to partner with IUSD schools.

Sincere regards,
Sanjay Dalal, Entrepreneur

Value of Training (CSPO)

What's Scrum training worth?

I am about to lead a Certified Scrum Product Owner course. (2 days, in NYC and a bit later in Saratoga Springs.) The question comes up...what is this course worth?

I explain this in more detail in the course, but here's the summary.

In the course we talk about many things, and hope to get many improvements. Imagine, though, that we only make 2 improvements to a Product Owner. And that PO manages only one Team.

Assume the Team costs about $1 million all-in per year. Team of about 8 people.

Assume the Team currently produces about $3 million per year in NPV (net present value, a core way of measuring business value). (Microsoft seems to be averaging about a 5:1 ratio or better overall.)

OK. We teach Sam, the PO, how to create 20% better stories. So, instead of $3 million per year, the team can get $3.6 million per year.

Now, we also teach him the Pareto Rule, and how to work it all the time. (80% of the value comes from 20% of the work.) Now, we and Sam aren't perfect, so Sam comes back only able to execute the 85-33 rules, ie, 85% of the value in close to double the 20% of the time that Pareto's rule calls for.

OK, this means in 33% of a year, the Team can get 85% of $3.6 million. Let's round down and call that $3 million. We assume Sam (and the firm) can find more work of the same value. So, in the next 33% of a year, the Team produces another $3 million in BV. And in the last third of that year, the Team produces another $3 million in BV. So, now we have $9 million in BV in one year. A 3x improvement. (I will note we assume that the Team did *not* increase Story Point velocity at all. No other impediments removed...very conservative assumption.)

Even if we (the teacher and Sam) don't immediately achieve quite the same level of improvement we assumed (which itself was far from perfection), I think you can see that, a million here, a million there, pretty soon you're talking real money. And, in my opinion, those improvements alone justify the costs for the 2-day course. Even in a serious recession.

What do you think?

How Web-Based Training Delivers Business Impact

There's a touchy little secret about call centers: their employee turnover is atrocious; it can reach as high as 26 percent per year, according to one expert's estimates. As a result, companies strive to ease the stress of their customer service agents.

Continental Airlines, the fourth largest airline in the U.S. with $14 billion in revenues, realized that by deploying VoIP technology with personal computers, it could route reservations calls to agents' homes. This not only reduced the need for call center real estate, but it also gives reservations agents the ability to both telecommute and time-shift their work. Today, almost 1,100 agents work at home.

    Turning To Videoconferencing Technology
Unfortunately, even good ideas sometimes have bad side effects. Continental found that they could easily keep employees up-to-date on staff issues with regular teleconferences. But for training and evaluations -- activities that required visual interaction -- agents still had to get into their cars and drive to a call center location.

Continental solved the problem by turning to technology a second time, implementing the WebEx hosted system for improving communications with its remote employees. By using hosted WebEx Meeting Center sessions, supervisors can easily update small groups of employees on policy or process changes. They can also schedule one-on-one training sessions.

"Using WebEx, supervisors share their desktops to show agents how to use a specific feature on our reservation program," says Leslie Colbert, Continental's director of training and communication. "WebEx gives all of our agents direct and frequent contact with management."

    Saving Time and Fuel
Continental estimates that it's saving more than 10 million miles of car travel, 9 million pounds of emissions, and about 500,000 gallons of fuel annually. The airline is also implementing WebEx eLearning for new hires.

Overall, it's benefiting both internally and externally. "WebEx helped us create an incredible remote worker program which aids us in our recruiting practices," says Colbert. "Our telecommuting program is now a huge draw for potential hires."

That's a double advantage for Continental. At the same time it's increasing employee satisfaction, it's also gaining a better reputation for being environmentally sensitive.

If you haven't already embraced Web collaboration tools in your organization, consider it as an appropriate New Years resolution to boost your team's productivity.

Bad Pictures Can Kill Your Lead Generating Landing Page

By Luis Galarza - Internet Marketing Strategies.

The Perfect Example On How Bad Pictures Can Kill Your Lead Generating Landing Page!

Today I found the perfect example of a network marketing lead generating landing page with great sales copy give a complete unprofessional first impression to it's visitors with a bad picture.

And what is even worth, is that the picture is the first thing a visitor will see... this is a great system called Big MLM Secrets, they provide a range of different marketing tools to it's members that help them build a strong network marketing or MLM business online. One of this tools is a landing page design to generate leads for their business which let you put your picture on the top of the page, and that's where the problem for this member is.

Her picture is not bad if it's use for a personal blog or an online family photo album. But, when you are building a list of hot prospects for your business. A Myspace sexy style picture will not do the job...

Here is the link to her landing page:
    http://betty.bigmlmsecrets.com/indexSTS3.php?u=betty&mad=14664 by Betty Shine.

The solution for this is simple.

Just post a picture where you are wearing close like if you are going to a job interview, not like you plan to use it on Match.com for some dating. Remember that first impression in business online or offline is very important. So, Betty if you ever read this post, I can guarantee you that your sign-up conversions will increase dramatically. The sales copy of this landing page is really good, looks like they already did a lot of the testing for you, so just change the picture with a more professional one and you will be all set.

Here are one the systems I use to make money online with network marketing, and is completely free:
    - Downline Secrets 2.

TIP: When you promoting a network marketing or MLM money making program, you need to become the brand, so promote yourself not the companies or the products... If you want to generate sales create a separate marketing plan for the products or services, keeping your brand as the main provider. Remember that systems systems don't fail, people fail.

To learn proven Internet marketing strategies, I recommend you to check Insider Secrets To Marketing Your Business Online 2008 Version. This is the number one Internet marketing training for over 10 years.

In Conclusion: When you're promoting a business opportunity or network marketing system you need to focus all your marketing strategies on you "The Brand", not companies or products. Second, use advertising campaign that will target hot prospects, this is what is going to make you money. And avoid mistakes like using bad pictures that can kill your lead generating landing page conversions ;)
