KETTLETIP - PERFECT YOUR KETTLEBELL SWING

HERE ARE SOME TIPS FROM RYAN SHANAHAN OF KETTLEWORX ON HOW TO PERFECT YOUR KETTLEBELL SWING

Tight Grip: Squeeze the handle tight with your hands to increase arm tone!

Feet: Should be slightly wider than shoulder width. Keep 70% of your bodyweight balanced on your heels to target the glutes

Swing: Avoid lifting with the arms.

Swing Height: UP to eye-level, no higher. If you’re swinging too high, consider advancing to a heavier kettlebell.

Swing Low: Reach through between your legs with a medium knee bend.

Posture: Back straight throughout entire swing.

Hip Thrust: Your hips are the main power source during the Swing. Push hips back during the Low swing and thrust your hips forward during the High swing.

Secret Ingredient: Top of the swing, PAUSE & SQUEEZE your GLUTES + AB’s for a 2 second count to maximize muscle lift and firmness.

KETTLEBELLS FOR FEMALES

An increasing number of women are starting to use the kettlebell as a tool for exercising. Heck, the ladies at my boot camps are starting to love the “krazy” kettlebell sessions that I conduct.

KETTLEBELL TRAINING FOR BEACH VOLLEYBALL

Kettlebell Training for Beach Volleyball

As an ex-Professional Beach Volleyball player, I wish that I had the knowledge of the different training programs and tools that consists today. There is one training tool that I feel is dramatically underutilized in the world of beach volleyball – the Kettlebell.

Kettlebells are effective in training for athletic performance development. The Kettlebell is great addition to the athletes training a number of reasons.

First of all, there are a wide variety of drills that can be performed with them. Secondly, they are inexpensive and take up very little space. And lastly, you don’t need to be in a facility to train. In the case of beach volleyball, you can train with them right on the beach. And what better place to do your training? Athletes will get better transfer of training if they practice on the surface that they play on.


One of the specific exercises that I suggest for beach volleyball athletes is the Kettlebell swing. This basic ballistic drill allows the athlete to develop better ability to effectively generate and absorb kinetic energy through the body’s most powerful engine (the hips) in one single motion.


Another advantage of the swing is that it helps prepare the athlete for the more advanced Kettlebell power exercises, such as: cleans, jerks and snatches. All of which are excellent, because they not only train the hips, but also the: shoulder complex, rotator cuff (more specifically the external rotators, teres minor and infraspinatus) which is so often neglected in athletic training programs.

Beach volleyball players professional, amateur and recreational should all add the Kettlebell workout into the full volleyball training regimen

The 2008 Sgt Shanahan Boot Camp workouts will start May31, the first Saturday after the long week-end.

Hopefully you have continued your kettlebell workouts over the winter but if your in need of incentive, I have a great opportunity for you and to help your dear trainer out.

Currently I am involved with an exciting new project and would like to give you the opportunity to get involved.


We are going to show the world how kettlebells can make you healthy and fit. I've created a new series of kettlebell workout DVDs to be sold through a North American wide infomercial and we are looking for folks to be interviewed and provide testimonials about how kettlebells helped you get in shape and to potentially appear in our infomercial.


Here is how you can participate. The first thing we need is to collect before and after boot camp photos. It was an oversight for me not to do it at the time, but if you have any photographs you feel comfortable in sharing, I would welcome them.

We need photos any time period prior to the boot camp or one on one work outs with myself , and then photos current or after the boot camp / one on one workouts showing your new appearance. Ideally we would like the photos to be just of you, with a simple background, and in sharp focus.

If that is not available, please send what you have and we can work with it, if you are interested in participating. The next step then is to join us for a free refresher workout and follow-up interview. It will only take an hour or two of your time.


During the video taped interviews, our production staff will ask you basic questions about your kettlebell and Ryan Shanahan workout experience (howthe workouts helped you reach your goals, made you feel better, how the workouts changed your body, etc). Not to worry, the questions will be straight forward, nothing scary. Some of these interviews may then be incorporated in our infomercial.


If you are interested in participating, I need your photos as soon as possible, in order to arrange the appropriately sized facility for us to, do the follow-up workout and interview. We have not quite nailed down the timing as yet, but it looks like it may be late March or early April.

Kettlebell - Burn Fat No Matter Where You're At!
