Obama to give speech on financial crisis Monday

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama will give a speech about the financial crisis on Monday in New York, marking the anniversary of the collapse of Lehman Brothers, the White House said on Thursday.

The fall of Lehman last year triggered a worldwide financial crisis and accelerated Obama's race to the presidency as the Democrat's cool reaction to the country's economic problems contrasted with a more scattered response from his Republican opponent, Senator John McCain.

Obama made financial regulatory reform a key platform of his candidacy and is trying to push through Congress legislative measures on the issue as president.

"He will discuss the aggressive steps the administration has taken to bring the economy back from the brink (and) the commitment to winding down the government's role in the financial sector," the White House said in a statement about the speech.

Actions the United States and other nations around the world must take to prevent "a crisis like this from ever happening again" would also feature in the speech, the statement said.

Lehman, once the fourth-largest U.S. investment bank, filed for bankruptcy protection on September 15, 2008, in the largest U.S. bankruptcy filing in history.

Obama's speech will take place at midday in New York City's Federal Hall.

A picture is worth a thousand words - visual creativity and innovation

Starting today, I am going to "see with new eyes" and express my thoughts and articles in pictures for the next month. I am not a professional artist (although I was a pretty good art master for my daughter's 2nd grade class last year), and my pictures may not be worth a thousand words, much less two; however, I am hoping that my pictures may lead to deeper insights and invoke more reactions.

Here's a question (or two): What if we could express the world around us that we see, explore and interact with in pictures? Would this visual expression through new lens lead to bigger ideas, and unleash creativity and innovation?

The world around us is our home, our work, our community, our surroundings, everything that we experience daily i.e. where we live, work and play.

Starting today, get ready to experience my attempts on sharing my random thoughts on creativity and innovation in business, education, community, politics and more in pictures and images.

Introducing "My Stories By Rohan Dalal" and "My Pictures By Suhani Dalal"

Our son Rohan Dalal, 11, wants to be a writer when he grows up. Rohan began writing when he was 7, wrote his first story about fun adventures with his friends, and since then has wrote more than 20 stories.

In 2005, and early 2006, Rohan wrote his first long story, "The Cave of Dragons." This was about 20,000 words long. We submitted an edited version of about 5,000 words for Wiebel Elementary's Young Author contest in January 2006. Rohan won the first prize for the entire 5th grade, and received an honorable mention from the Fremont school district. We were very proud of Rohan's achievements.

Rohan's latest foray is a three-part book titled "Lightning." This year, we created Rohan's website "My Stories By Rohan Dalal" to further inspire him, unleash his creativity, and share his stories with everyone. Rohan has recently published Book One of his Lightning series.

Here is how Rohan describes his latest book: "Lightning - Book One is about a boy named Matt who gets lightning powers from a deadly electric zap, which was almost fatal to him. After realizing his true power and his destiny, Matt then has to stop the evil mad scientist, Vick, from enslaving the world, and saving his best friend, Blake, from the deadly creatures that inhabit the Haunted Mansion. What happens then? You have to read to find out..."

We welcome you to read Rohan's stories, and provide him your valuable feedback so that he continues to develop his engaging storytelling and becomes a great writer when he grows up.

Our daughter Suhani Dalal, 6, wants to be an artist when she grows up. She loves to draw colorful pictures and images of butterflies, parks, sun, sunrise, sunset, mountains, hills, trees, green grass, butterfly, blue water, lakes and oceans, fish, sky, birds, friends and anything pretty and beautiful that she wonders and imagines.

Suhani also wants to be an illustrator for Rohan's stories. Suhani has already published about a dozen pictures on her website: "My Pictures By Suhani Dalal" Suhani is very creative, and paints using the Paint program on the laptop. Outside the pictures she creates on the laptop, she also likes to draw on paper using crayons, pencils, paint brush and even her hands.

We welcome you to view Suhani's pictures, and encourage her to draw great many pictures about the fun, happy things in life.
