Timeless Tuesday: Watermelon Coolers?

Things have gotten a little serious and a little heavy around here, so I have decided to do a Timeless Tuesday post.

What better subject than, a Watermelon Cooler to lighten the mind? Think about all your trips to the lake or cabin with your trusty Watermelon Cooler?

I remember hearing stories from my grandma about when her family finally splurged and bought their first... watermelon cooler?

If you think I am completely nuts, blame the Amentior crew. They inspired me on this post.

Timeless Tuesday - Fountain Pens

Writing is becoming a lost art... thanks to things like iPads, Blogs, and email. Yet, it still has its place in the world, and nothing beats a handwritten note or letter.

That being said, if you have to do some writing, especially where the look and feel of the words, paper, and signature are important... nothing beats a fountain pen.

Timeless Tuesday: Wiffle Ball

Sorry I forgot last week...

This week we have a great game... that few kids actually play anymore. The game has been "taken over" by college-kids who take the game to almost insane "levels." Case in point: Wiffle Stadium Video, Golden Stick Tourney Action Video, Wicked Pitching

But in reality it should be a game for anyone and everyone...

Timeless Tuesday - Ernie Harwell, R.I.P.

Unfortunately, I had to post a second "Timeless Tuesday" post. I say unfortunately... because I would be remiss if I did not post about Ernie Harwell. He died today... at the age of 92, after a dignified battle with cancer. Thanks for the memories Ernie...may angels lead you in.

Timeless Tuesdays - M1911 .45 acp

The M1911 is a single-action, semi-automatic, magazine-fed, recoil-operated handgun chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge.[1] It was designed by John M. Browning, and was the standard-issue side arm for the United States armed forces from 1911 to 1985, and is still carried by some U.S. forces. It was widely used in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.

"Swing Time" - Timeless Tuesday

Swing Time is a movie starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. It is one of those films that really is timeless. It came out in 1936 and is regarded as Astaire & Rogers' greatest film together. A brief synopsis from IMDB.com:
Lucky is tricked into missing his wedding to Margaret by the other members of Pop's magic and dance act, and has to make $25000 to be allowed to marry her. He and Pop go to New York where they run into Penny, a dancing instructor. She and Lucky form a successful dance partnership, but romance is blighted (till the end of the film at least!) by his old attachment to Margaret and hers for Ricardo, the band leader who won't play for them to dance together.
There is something about the clothes and dancing in this movie that make it timeless. The plot isn't what one would call, captivating, but the visuals in this movie combined with the funny exchanges make this one of the all time great movies. All one has to do is look at the pictures and clips to understand the magic of this movie. And needless to say, looking at Ginger Rogers makes one wonder if she was an Angel that fell from heaven.

People have asked me how "Timeless Tuesdays" fit into the theme of this blog. I think that if we can see the intrinsic goodness in things that aren't directly related to the Sacred, we should easily be able to find the timelessness and intrinsic beauty in the Sacred itself.

Patti Page "Old Cape Cod" - Timeless Tuesdays

My wife reads a few blogs that have "weekly themes." She said that she really likes that "feature" on some of her blogs and suggested that I start doing the same on my blog. She made a suggestion for one... and to be honest, I don't remember what it was. The reason I forgot is because it was a really good idea, but I knew that I couldn't faithfully come up with something week after week that was good enough to post about in that "theme."

So I have come up with something a little more mundane, but at the same time a break from the "norm." It still relates to our theme here... which is the defense of good against the forces of evil. So I figured, why not post something on TUESDAYS that is "TIMELESS." Something that is culturally significant that will transcend its time period and that maintains its intrinsically strong GOODNESS years beyond its "peak."

So without further ado, my first "TIMELESS TUESDAY" post.
