Over the last semester Newfoundland Power launched its “Take Charge” campaign which promotes energy conservation. As part of the SIFE team we helped with promoting energy conservation throughout our community. We targeted younger children because they are more motivated and more likely to get their parents on board. We went to Balbo Elementary where we talk to the grade five students about ways they can conserve energy. I found that the students were very energetic, interested and couldn’t wait to get started on conserving energy. As part of the presentation we gave them a chart to compare their last year’s monthly energy consumption with the next three months energy conservation. The challenge was to see who could have greatest energy conservation. That student will receive a prize.
