What are we preparing them for?

Reader Bonnie writes:
A question like “What are we preparing them for?” still stops me in my tracks. I thought all this technology discussion was about ‘how’ to prepare them. I know what I am preparing them for and it hasn’t changed for over 20 years.

I’m preparing them to think for themselves. I want my students to question everything, especially their own actions. I want them to celebrate diversity and respect difference. I want them to be responsible for their own actions and how their actions have global effects. I want them to care for the earth and their fellow living beings. I try to prepare them to act when they see or hear injustice.

The technology I’m avidly learning right now will definitely make my goal easier to achieve and I think more relevant and more interesting for students. These are great things! But I’ve known some amazing teachers who have achieved these goals with very little technology. Technology alone is not going to make our world a better place.

This is part of the reason why I think we've got to hit the mute button on the "T" word.

Fire is technology. The wheel is technology. The compound bow is technology. "Technology" is just the craft of figuring out a way to do something.

When I say “What are we preparing them for?”, I'm not qualifying that as a statement as to the bearings of education (let alone technology) on their rational and ethical thinking procedures.

I'm actually in a way thinking less of the students and more of the environment they'll live in. I fully realize certain limitations in bringing this forward in the debate, but I think about it nonetheless.

I think about what travel will be like in 2110. After all, it was only in 1910 when a North American airplane first claimed the life of a professional pilot; and yet, despite any hassles, air travel stands not only as the icon of the 20th century but as the safest form of getting from here to there.

I think about what art will be like. After all, it was only in 1907 that Picasso up-turned 500 years of European figurative painting. Been to a museum lately?

I think about what music, and the press, and grocery stores, and shopping malls will be like in 2110. In a way, only shopping malls seem relatively unphased over the centuries.

And so, I prepare my students to be critical thinkers. I prepare them to be able to handle abstract concepts and open-ended questioning. I try my darndest to prepare them for the challenges that lie ahead no matter what.

But in the end, I realize that the world facing them on the other side of the Digital Revolution is as foreign to me as the world of the Agricultural Revolution was to the hunter gatherers.

I'm obliged to recognize that I'm of a generation caught in the transition between two ages. And these sorts of cultural/technological revolutions just seem to catch up to us now and then.

One way or another, the world is fundamentally changed as a result.

Our students need the critical capacity to be able to handle this change. You better be putting them through the paces of Lao-Tzu, Plato, Seneca, and Kant. But none of that will forecast how the world looks after the dust of this revolution settles.

And thus, for a simple guy like me, all I can ask is: “What are we preparing them for?”

MLM Business Lead-How to Explode Your MLM Business Lead Base

As a network marketer, you know how important it is to drive traffic to your website. As a matter of fact, your very survival depends on it. If you want to have a great list of mlm business lead, this is a must!

There is an often over-looked area of marketing that is ignored by many in network marketing. This area is offline marketing. While the Internet is a source used by many, there are also thousands of prospects that can be presented with your MLM business opportunity through offline sources. Here are eight offline strategies that you can use to expand your network marketing prospects and mlm business lead list, and, in turn, explode your business.

1. Use a small zip close bag and include, for example, the following in it:

a business card
a business opportunity flyer or mini flyer
a discount coupon
a mini flyer of current special

Hand out the baggies to bank tellers, retail cashiers, at your kids sport events, etc. In other words, everywhere you go! This is a quick and easy way to let folks know what you are about.

2. Print flyers with your contact information, your website address, and email address, along with any current specials you are offering. Then, contact mobile home park offices, apartment complex rental offices, housing developments, etc., and ask for permission to leave flyers in their office or hang on tenant doors. You would also give the office employees a free gift or discount on your product or service.

4. Contact your local bridal supply stores, bridal gown stores, caterers, tux rental centers, wedding DJ's, etc. When contacting them, ask if you can leave your business card with them as a flyer for their customers to pick up.

5. Don't overlook daycare centers! They are excellent places to contact and leave business cards and/or flyers. Make sure that for whatever company you represent, you find items that cater specifically to children or moms. Make sure your flyer clearly shows this.

6. Contact your local churches. A lot of churches hold spring and fall festivals, Christmas bazaars, plan special events around Thanksgiving, etc. Contact them about getting a table or booth. This is a very inexpensive way (generally less than $15 a table) to promote your network marketing business.

7. Connect with your local Chamber of Commerce. Many times they hold local business events that you can participate in.

8. Do you have a college in your town? If so, great! College students are always looking to lose weight, spend money, and for more ways to generate extra income. Remember, how broke you were in college? So, students are also great prospects for your MLM business opportunity.

As you can see, this is just a small list of endless strategies that you can use to market your business offline as well as build a great mlm business lead list. Try one or more of these strategies to start off with, and watch your network marketing business explode!

BusinessWeek on Augmented Reality - "GPS technology is not yet good enough for AR to be useful"

My first post for Tnooz was on Augmented reality and mobile. In it I have a couple of videos of some great looking AR travel apps. However since I am trapped in the Blackberry world (my company uses blackberry) I have not had a chance to try out any of these for myself. That has left open the question as to whether or not the hype of Augmented Reality matches...well.. the reality of Augmented reality.

Steve Wildstorm (personal tech columnist at BusinessWeek) believes that AR is "Not that Real Yet". There is an interesting podcast interview with him here (part of his regularly weekly series) where he says that the GPS technology that is critical for AR to work is simply not accurate enough. At its best GPS provides accuracy to 20 meters. Wildstorm argues that a 20 meter radius error margin is not good enough to give the accuracy you need for AR to work. It is worth noting that "at its best" means all the satellites are in the right place and there are no buildings in the way. In other words it is likely that accuracy will be worse than 20 meters. Also thinks that the apps that are out there are "just modified browsers" and need to be better thought through - sometimes the apps are giving too much information or a level of GPS accuracy that is not available.

If you are interested in AR for online travel then I recommend listening to the podcast (here). BOOT recommended read/listen of the week.

The AdWords New Ad Formats Initiative

Black Friday may be behind us, but Cyber Monday, one of the busiest days of the year for online retailers, has just begun. And just as users' searches for Cyber Monday deals and information have increased over time, so have their expectations about the types of information they want from the ads.

Last week, the Official Google Blog provided an overview of some of the new search ad formats we've introduced over the last few months. These new formats are part of our AdWords New Ad Formats Initiative and showcase the ways we've worked to include richer types of information in our ads. This initiative is Google's next chapter in search advertising and over the next year it'll be a major focus for AdWords, so we'd like to give you an idea of what to expect.

The AdWords New Ad Formats Initiative has two themes: ad extensions and new ad models.
  • Ad extensions offer you the ability to enhance your existing text ads with additional relevant information. Some examples of ad extensions include Ad Sitelinks which allow you to provide additional links pointing to specific information on your site and Product Extensions which allow you to show images and prices of relevant products from your Google Merchant Center account. By putting the most salient information directly wiithin the ad, ad extensions are designed to help users more quickly and easily find the products and services they seek on Google.
  • New ad models are formats that offer better solutions to more complicated queries. For example, Comparison Ads enable users to specify the exact product or service they're looking for and compare multiple offers in a single location. New ad models also offer advertisers new pricing models, like cost per action for Product Listing Ads. Our new ad models are designed to make it easier for users to find exactly what they want and for you to reach more users with better information.
The AdWords New Ad Formats Initiative is part of our core mission to deliver the right information to the right user at the right time. As more and more users come online searching for products and services, we'll continue to test new ad extensions and new ad models that make it easier for them to find the information they're searching for.

We hope you have a successful Cyber Monday and look forward to working with you to make AdWords even better in the new year.

Agile Principles

I often say that you can't do the dance if you don't feel the music.

In a discussion list now, there is a heated discussion about the principles that underlie Scrum. I hope no one hurts themselves. By which I mean to jest that we often have the biggest fights about abstract things ... about which we want, or at least tend, to disagree.

About concrete facts that all can see with their own eyes, it is harder to have arguments.

OK. Here are some principles that I see at play in Lean-Agile and in Scrum. Part of the fun of putting this list out there is the hope and expectation that you will discover for me yet better ways of expressing these or other principles at work. My list was done hastily, so you are welcome to complain. Also.

A quick list....
* all work-in-process is waste (and we want to eliminate as much of it as we can possibly imagine)
* two heads are better than one; three are better than two
* with our work, the productivity of the individual is fairly meaningless (no individual alone can produce the product); the productivity of a small group is meaningful
* bad news does not get better with age
* truth and love are the true foundation
* how hard we work is not important; what is important is making a few people's lives better
* we have failures in communication all the time; the problem is to identify the biggest ones as fast as possible, and correct them quickly
* the best way to communicate about this very abstract work is to make it as concrete as possible. And then get as full and direct feedback as we can bear.
* in theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is. Yogi Berra. One Meaning: In our minds all our ideas seems to work. In practice we all always see many mistakes and problems.
* knowledge creation is what it's all about
* "There are many things one doesn’t understand, and therefore we ask them: why don’t you just go ahead and take action; try to do something?" Fujio Cho.
* You learn fastest by small mistakes.
* Where there is no vision, the people perish. Proverbs.
* People are remarkably good at doing what they want to do. (Little's Second Law)
* I know it when I see it. Judge Potter Stewart.
* How does a project get one year late? One day at a time. Fred Brooks.
* You don't need to motivate them. You need to get the de-motivators out of the way.
* People work best when allowed to make small promises.
* Don't over-stress the system (the team).
* Because business and technology decisions are inter-dependent, business people and technologists must work together daily.
* There will never come a day when there are no impediments. We can always improve. We must work on the biggest impediment each day.
* "Depend upon it sir; the prospect of being hanged in a fortnight concentrates the mind wonderfully." Samuel Johnson.
* To predict is difficult, particularly of the future. (A Chinese proverb?)
* We are organic, transient animals. We are not machines nor are we constructs of the mind.
* There is a lot of variation amongst and between individuals. And perhaps more so amongst and between teams.
* Man is "a being darkly wise and rudely great". (Alex. Pope) Of a mixed nature. None of us will be perfect soon.
* Micro-managing workers never helps. A bit of coaching might help some.
* Pretending to be more productive by lowering quality is just pretending.

Three reasons to consider Google Apps

Editor's note: Today’s guest blogger is John Buckholz, VP of Information Technology for LCC International, Inc., a global wireless engineering company with 1,200 employees in North America, Europe and the Middle East. Following eight years as a management consultant with Accenture, John has since led the IT groups at three global companies. John has managed Lotus cc:Mail, IBM Notes/Domino, and Microsoft Exchange systems during his career, but his most recent choice for messaging and collaboration is Google Apps.

John will be speaking on a live webcast this Thursday at 2:00 p.m. EST / 11:00 a.m. PST / 7:00 p.m. GMT.

LCC International designs, builds, operates, and maintains wireless networks throughout the world. We have a diverse user base, including field technicians who collect statistics on cell phone signals, radio frequency engineers who use applications specific to our industry, and administrative staff who support the business operations. We operate in more than 20 countries throughout North America, Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. With standard workweeks varying by country, along with the various time zones across the globe, our workforce operates around the clock, 365 days a year – which means a lot of coordination to keep everyone in sync.

For email, we had most recently been using Microsoft Exchange. Prior to that, we had IBM Notes/Domino and before that, Lotus cc:Mail. The company intranet was based on Microsoft SharePoint. These on-premise solutions required a fair amount of ongoing support and maintenance. We had a total of 10 IT people supporting all of our systems, and we frequently found ourselves addressing issues on weekends, especially early on Saturday mornings as our colleagues in some countries were starting their workweek. We were stretched too thin with covering all of these products around the clock. It felt like firefighting a lot of the time.

We wanted a solution that would lower our overall costs and free up IT time. At the same time, we knew that we couldn't afford to have downtime. We initially wondered if Google Apps was enterprise-ready. Then we attended
a webcast featuring Genentech, and we thought to ourselves, “If Google Apps are good enough for Genentech, it’s good enough for us.”

We conducted a pilot, and, to our surprise, everything was silent. We thought no one was using the Apps. But it turns out that people were doing fine and accessing Google’s training materials on their own when they had questions.

That’s when we decided to move into the cloud in earnest. We’ve been on Google Apps for one year now, after what I would say was a fairly easy transition with a little help from
SADA Systems, a Google Apps partner. We now have good email service, including reliable access for mobile users. We collaborate on documents using Google Docs.

And we converted the company intranet from SharePoint to Google Sites. We took the least experienced person on our IT staff and asked him to try converting the intranet to Google Sites. He really amazed us. With no formal training, he just built the whole thing. It’s a testament to how easy Google Apps is to learn and use.

With Google Apps, we are now saving 60% over other alternatives, and my team no longer spends their weekends monitoring system uptime and addressing email issues. Most importantly, IT has been able to shift resources to more mission-critical initiatives. We now have a smaller IT team and a much less complex environment. A few short years ago, we were slaying dragons day and night. Now, we can all get down to supporting the business in more strategic ways.

I’d be delighted to share my insights and top three reasons to consider making a move to Google Apps. Please join us for “

Population and Technology

In 1810, the population of the United States was just north of 7 million.

In 1910, the population of the United States was just shy of 100 million.

In 2010, the population of the United States will be greater than 300 million.

In 1810, the population of the United States per square mile was 4.3.

In 1910, the population of the United States per square mile was 26.

In 2010, the population of the United States per square mile will be at least 80.

Let's put this all into a little perspective.

There are over 270 million cellphones in use in the United States. That's almost double the number of land lines.

Now, if the average cellphone is 4 inches long, then if we set all those 270 million cellphones lying in a straight line, they'd measure out at 1,080,000,000 inches or 27,432 kilometers. That's more than half the circumference of the Earth at the equator.

And that's just the cellphones in the US. There's another 634 million in China. And 427 million in India. And Germany, Japan, Indonesia, Brazil, and Russia sport numbers well above 100 million each.

As for the Internet, there are 231 million users in the US (on a good day).

In other words, there are more than double as many folks online in the US today as there were people in the US a hundred years ago.

Now I know that these sorts of stats get cited and bandied about all the time; yet no matter how often I look at them they nonetheless give me shivers.

Because 2110 is gonna make 2010 look like 1910. And we've already produced children who will live to see that day.

What are we preparing them for?

Notes:

The numbers for 1810 and 1910 come from the 1990 Census of Population and Housing, "1990 Population and Housing Unit Counts: United States", (CPH-2).

From the Archive: Books Were Nice

On the heels of the last post, here's another entry from my stint over at Change.org.

It's a post that stoked a bit of chatter and lots of great discussion.

It's called: 'Books Were Nice'.

Enjoy.

Creating Team Innovation - Chapter One

As the manager of a group of creative employees, how do you consistently create great Team Innovation?

In order to create constant Team Innovation, first and foremost, the manager needs to understand the characteristics and traits of a well-functioning team.

Here are the Top Seven Characteristics of a high performance team that leads to steady and substantial Team Innovation:

1. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal, and work is fun

How does this compare to your team? Is very team member looking forward to their work day? Are they coming to work happy & enjoying what they do?

2. The task and goals are clearly understood by all group members

Do you have a team mission & vision statement? Is it well aligned with your company's mission & vision? Do all members know what they need to carry out on a day to day basis? What are the monthly & quarterly goals?

3. Ideas and feelings are expressed freely and openly, and with creativity

Are you coming in the way? Do you encourage employees to express their ideas & feelings, or discourage them? Who brought up the last big idea? Did you reward that person? Do you have ways to catch good ideas?

4. Conflict is productive and often, centered on issues as opposed to on people

Conflicts are healthy. Often, conflicts lead way to great ideas & solutions. But, they should be always about issues & challenges, and not about people. Create a mindset to pay immediate attention to all conflicts, and resolve them so that everyone's happy about the solution.

5. The group is aware of its own functioning and dynamics, including inefficiencies

This is important! Group dynamics are core for a well-functioning team. Everyone should be aware of everyone's strengths, and weaknesses. And the role of a great team manager is to create positive group behavior, and help those who need help.

6. In almost all cases, decisions are made by consensus, and consensus is not forced

Do you always make decisions for the entire team, or help them make a decision? It is important that everyone's opinions are taken into account whenever faced with a big decision. And it's equally important to keep all decisions transparent and communicate about them to your team members.

7. When individual tasks are assigned, they are accepted and carried out in a timely manner by group members

Is your group member on the same page with you on what needs to be done, how it needs to be done, the quality of work, and by when? What are the dependencies? What resources do your team members need to complete the tasks? Make sure they have what they need to deliver in a timely manner.

Two Basic Parts of a Low Cost Web Site Promotion

The following paragraphs summarize the work of Internet Marketing experts who are completely familiar with all the aspects of Internet Marketing. Heed their advice to avoid any Internet Marketing surprises.

Anybody could own a web site. Anybody could up sell their own wares and services to their target audience. Anyone could dab to cooperate their web site with a low cost. But there are not many web sites that have a truly paying web site with traffic all day terminated. What these nation or companies lack is the most essential factor of success – a low cost web site promotion that really works.

If you have been trying to promote your let on web site and you have received traffic every hour, my hands are down for you. But for those people who need assistance, who does not have the patience to promote their let on product and services, and lacks knowledge to properly advertise themselves, here are some guidelines to cooperation you achieve success with a low cost web site promotion.

Search Engine Submission and Ranking are the two basic parts to a low cost web site promotion. Both of the parts have the corresponding effect on the market of the web site – for your products and services presented in your web site catches the people’s attention.

The first inexpensive method of web site promotion is the search engine submission. This first part is the produce filing information and submitting your web site to look into engines.

See how much you can learn about Internet Marketing when you take a little time to read a well-researched article? Don't miss out on the rest of this great information.

There are two types of Search engine submission – manual and automatic. For a low cost and effective web site promotion, automatic submission is ideal because after filling up the information, a software technique would forward this information to divergent search engines.

The second money - saving web site promotion is ranking. This refers to the numerical position in which your web site appears on a search engine, based upon the web site’s criteria. Some search engines rank the order in which your search contact appear primarily by how many other web sites link to each page. The leading web sites on this order would eventually sign a low cost web site promotion.

Deviating types of inexpensive web site promotion you could use to boost up traffic on your web site are banner advertising, classified ads, matter links and section sponsorship. Banner advertisements pop up superior and below web pages, and sometimes in another window. Text links and section sponsorship may cost more, but these methods helps in promoting to your specified target audience. It wouldn’t harm your web site to try these methods.

Always recall that the effects of your not so costly web site promotion hits are increasing significantly each day. Don’t waste time; find an effective and affordable web site promotion of your choice today.
Hopefully the sections above have contributed to your understanding of Internet Marketing. Share your new understanding about Internet Marketing with others. They'll thank you for it.

Expedia trialling Wotif display format in Australia

Care of a tweet from Kristi Barrow I came across a hotel sort order and search display experiment by Expedia in Australia (expedia.com.au). Below is a screenshot of the new display trial.

As you can see it is a grid approach rather than the typical list and details approach. I am convinced this is only a test as I was only able to get these results in one of four searches I tried. Likely they are doing multi-variant (or A/B) testing here.

You may be wondering why Expedia would trial a new (and arguably less user friendly) display on their Australian site. The reason is because of the market power of Wotif - the largest seller of online hotels in Australia.

In case you have not looked at the Wotif site, they have a very different look and feel to a typical online hotel retailer. Instead of a list of hotels with a lead in room rate, they have a grid that shows all the hotels on the left side, dates at the top and then availability and price in the middle. In other words a dramatic increase in the amount of information shown to a consumer. The sacrifice being depth of hotel information, sort order management and date accuracy (ie a specific date range for a search). It is now standard in Australia but very different to other markets.

By standard I mean it has influenced other players. Local competitors such as needitnow (AOT group) checkin and quickbeds (Fight Centre) have followed suit with this layout. Clearly Expedia has also caught the Wotif bug and is interested in trialling this layout in Australia.

Thanks to Kristi for sending the story around.

Music Monday- ♫ Janet Jackson - Runaway ♫

I just love this video of Janet Jackson which is a another favorite hit of the 90's! Don't blame me for being a 90's person.. lol.. was in my teens and schooling then..

In this video Janet takes us flying to different places across the globe and i just cant help but admire her facial expressions and the way she dances, esp on the plane. The choreography and movements are so smooth and shes beautifully dressed. Looks more Indian from what i observed, and even the three other dancers seem to be wearing Indian/afrian costumes. There is also an African/Indian feel to the music which is blended with hop hop beats.

Anyway, watching the video and remembering the good old days, makes me want to jump out of my window and enjoy exploring the colorful world like in the video. She really enjoys visiting Africa, china, Paris, India and other countries .. wow.. awesome video shot back then.. and we don't get to see the world connected through music so much these days! Its only loud Jazz, rap and hip hop! I've always loved meaningful music and the Jackson family gave us that.. :-)

Happy MM :-)

MLM Business Leads-Tip Three Tips on How to Talk To Prospects

One person I like to look to for skill training to use when I talk to mlm business leads is Tom, Big Al, Schreiter.

Big Al has been mentoring thousands for years and the skills he teaches are easy to use and very practical. There's nothing fancy with his techniques!

So, today's posts will cover some awesome Big Al strategies to use when you are talking to your mlm business leads.

How to make your presentations rejection-free.

Be polite. It is just that easy.

When prospects acknowledge that they have a problem that your products or opportunity can fix, before you launch into your presentation, ask this question first:

"Would you like to do something about it?"

This gives the prospects a chance to decline a sales presentation, when they have no intention of fixing their problem, or don't believe that you can fix it.

And it's just good manners.

We all hate it when we are subjected to a sales presentation when we don't want to hear one.

On the positive side, if your prospects say that they want to do something about their problem, it is so easy.

Just make a simple presentation and let your prospects buy or join.

Skill #23: How to get your prospects to say "YES" immediately: the magic sequences of words.

Many subscribers have attended this three-hour workshop and asked for more of the basic sequences that get prospects to listen and accept the good things we say.

We don't want to waste our life's breath on prospects who aren't listening.

So here are two more easy-to-use sequences that you can use when dealing with the "decision-making" part of the brain:

1. "I'm curious if you would keep an open mind to . . ."

2. "Well, you know how . . ."

You already know where and how to plug in these sequences from the workshop you attended. So use and enjoy!

People will not do what you tell them to do, only what you show them to do.

The complete library of Big Al skills is at:

What to say next.

After you have finished your "One-Minute Presentation" or any presentation, what are you going to say next if your prospect is not ready to make a decision?

You don't want your prospect to say, "I want to think it over."

You don't want silence while you and the prospect stare at each other.

So what can you say next to keep your presentation moving towards a decision?

Try this:

"So what would you like to know next?"

This forces the prospect to tell you which issues or questions are still in his mind. And by answering your prospect's question on what he wants to know next, you are moving closer to a decision.

This method puts the prospect in control of the flow of information and relaxes the tension of the presentation. Give it a try. Your prospect will love it too.

From the Archive: Goin' Mobile

Here's a post from my stint a while back guest-blogging at Change.org.

It's a piece titled 'Goin Mobile' and it's got a little bit to do with experiential learning and a little bit to do with mobile computing.

It's got a lot to do with homebases of learning.

A note of thanks, and a few words about a blogger buddy

Today, i've blushed purplish red after quite some time and i give the entire credit to Pradeep, the successful author of Hellboundbloggers.com. This tech blogger and engineering student knows how to balance between his blogging and being one of the friendliest bloggers in the blogosphere. He shares great posts from blogging tips and hacks to tutorials and reviews, and lots of other tech stuff. If people should need any info, they could look forward to a friendly smiling Pradeep who is always willing to help out with his beneficial tips, along with his influential thoughts..

Pradeep has written a special post about the female commenters of his blog and its really so sweet of him to appreciate their time and support in an manner most cherishable. This reminds me of the posts i used to write at 'special blogger friends' which is above in the nav bar where i would write special posts about my blog friends, thanking them and appreciating their support and love. Its a long time i haven't written, not even posted the awards as i've been quite acting clumsily on this blog, neglecting it a bit now and then. Not even writing about Alisha! missed out her birthday and posting her pics.. :(..

Anyway, this post Femle commenters who had commented on hellbound bloggers, has touched me so deeply and will help to boost up my blogging because facebook and family takes up all my time. Pradeep thinks am the coolest mom, and i guess coz i love sharing light moments while interacting with my buddies and since he has deemed my blog as one of his favorite, i must, must, pep up and give back to my appreciative readers what they truly deserve. :-)

I wish him all the very best in life and may he tough unseen heights in blogging and every possible way, and this comes from the core of my heart for this buddy of mine :-)

THINK ABOUT THIS EQUATION THOUGHTS + EMOTION + ACTION = RESULTS

post by Davelle Morrison

So what is this equation really about?

It’s a concept introduced to me by Bob Proctor in The Expressions of Your Power CD. It can help you to achieve a healthy active lifestyle.

Notice how your positive or negative thoughts guide you throughout your day to make good or bad decisions. Remember what you put into your body mentally is just as important as what you put into your body nutritionally.

Changing your thinking to be positive around health, fitness & nutrition will lead you to have a happy emotion associated with a healthy body.

That positive emotion will lead you to start acting on your vision of a healthy lifestyle which in turn will lead you to achieving the results that you want with a life more focused on health, nutrition & fitness.

What you feed your mind is extremely important. Meditation can play a crucial role here as you learn to take at least 10 minutes of silence everyday where you simply sit and breathe. Develop positive sayings which can re-enforce the positive energy around you.

My positive thoughts & emotions around health & fitness have now lead me toward achieving my goals of a healthy body. Think of organizing (your action) your week on a calendar so that you can ensure that you have time for meditation, yoga, workouts & healthy food preparation.

A little organization will go a really long way in helping you to achieve your Fit, Firm ‘n Fab goals.

I set aside Sunday evenings to prepare fruits & vegetables in 5 containers for each day of the week to ensure that I eat healthy everyday at the office. I also prepare my lunches for the week at that time.

My results are incredible. For the 2-3 hours of time I’ve put in, I’ve not only saved myself at least $100/week ($400 a month & $3,600/year!), I’ve saved myself a ton of calories in the process which helps to keep my weight down. A great result indeed!

See what you can do to help your positive thoughts & emotions lead you to act and gain better results.

MLM Business Leads-How to Get Your E-mail Marketing Letter Read

For those of you networkers who are creating a mlm business leads list and use resources such as a free report, newsletter, give away free ebooks, etc. to collect names and emails, one of the things you must learn how to do is to train your people to open your emails. This isn't always an easy task, but it can be done!

More and more people are using e-mail marketing in their mlm business as a way to instantly contact hundreds if not thousands of prospects. However, few people fail to realize that there is a lot more to e-mail marketing than that.

E-mail marketing is no different than any other type of marketing, the same type rules apply. It is important to understand that e-mail marketing is just a tool and like any tool you must learn how to use it. Your goal should not be to make the sale, but to get the prospect to request additional information. You have to want your mlm prospects to learn much more.

Most e-mail marketing is doomed from the start, in that over 90% of e-mails sent will never be read. Why is that?

1. Poor subject line - screw this up and the rest of your message is irrelevant.

Your subject line announces your e-mail and tells the reader if the message is important to them or not. Your subject line should do one thing and one only - get your reader to open the message and read the first sentence. Simply stating "You can make $20,000 in the next 30 days" just won’t cut it. In fact, a line like this will increase the chance that it will be considered spam. The more hyped your subject is, the less chance of getting a response. How do you attract the reader's attention without hype? There's no magic formula, but personalizing the subject line with your prospects name almost guarantees a second look. But name alone won’t get you great results; you still need to craft the rest of your subject line without the hype.

2. Don't confuse the prospect in the first paragraph

Now that the prospect has opened up your message, another 90% or more of your prospects will not make it past the first sentence. Your goal is to get them to read the first sentence, which leads to the second and so on. Don't state in the first sentence why you sent the e-mail message, how to opt-out, apologize for your message and for sure don't state that this message is not spam! Every sentence should contribute toward moving your prospect towards your objective what ever that objective is. If your subject gets the prospects' attention, the first paragraph should lead them into the rest of you message. You should always keep one thing in mind; your prospect only cares about one thing - what is in it for them.

Provide your prospects with something of value and they will take you up on your offer. What do you have that can help them in making a decision? What can you give away that will be an asset to them? If you become a resource to your prospects you will see the quality and quantity of responses change for the better.

If you follow these tips, you will find that your mlm business leads list will continue to grow and you will begin to make sales and find business partners.

SkyMall Follies: DIY traction. Please no auto-erotic asphyxiation jokes

The NeckPro Traction Device
This is the second in my series of SkyMall Follies posts. A look at the best and worst from the mile high catalogue of fun, games and madness that is the SkyMall.

Last time it was WWII Chess set. This time we have the "NeckPro Traction Device" ($50.95). A picture is supposed to tell a thousand words. But in the case on the NeckPro its promotional picture tells just 16 words - "Don't try this at home unless under the supervision of a trained bondage and discipline professional".

Targeted at both the do it yourself uninsured health care fool and the I want to live and die like David Carradine manic, this product contains a head noose/cradle/support that is attached to a pulley like structure which in turn can be affixed to a door. Yes- I could use those exact same words to describe a hangman's noose. Because that is exactly what it is except without the eye-holes, trapdoor and a series of drummer boys tapping out a death march costs extra.

Sexual and capital punishment innuendoes aside, if you suffered from chronic neck or back pain, then surely the last thing you would want to do is self medicate while wearing khakis and loafers.

Welcome to the Folly Files NeckPro. May the actor who posed for the photo in this advert one day be able to hang his head in shame.

Nothing says "Happy Thanksgiving" like Freaky Institutional Home Ec Instruction and a Romantic Piano Score

It just wouldn't be a 'Paperless Thanksgiving' without this MPEG archived diamond of a 1951 instructional film about childrens' ettiquette at the dinner table.

Hope you all use cloth napkins!

Web Server Hosting Types

You should be able to find several indispensable facts about hosting in the following paragraphs. If there's at least one fact you didn't know before, imagine the difference it might make. There are different types of hosting services that you can choose from depending on what type of web increase and web site that you want to host.

Dial - Up Access Hosting – This is the most basic access / hosting service and these providers also provides a web page for hosting your site. Dial - up access hosting was the first hosting available and is still around. Most ISP’s specialize in just internet access and it’s exceptional that you will see an ISP do both. These companies make their money off of providing access to the Internet.

Development Hosting - Web site developers are buying their own servers and offering independent hosting services for their clients. This is called development hosting in which they provide web development services along with a host server located at their place of business. The consumer gets charged for the development and the maintenance of the web - site.

Web - Hosting ISP’s. – These are companies that specialize in hosting business web sites.

Now that we've covered those aspects of hosting, let's turn to some of the other factors that need to be considered.

There is no dial up access needed and site owners access their pages via File Transfer Protocol ( FTP ). This is what the majority of small businesses benefit to put their site information on the internet. Contrary services are also included in the Web Hosting ISP package depending on their service plans.

These types of hosting plans are usually for corporations that need a lot of bandwidth to run their web applications. These companies run T1 access commodities for big packets of internet data and have multiple connections to an internet backbone. They have fully staffed notice processing facilities and the prices are substantial for using these types of services.

Corporate / Industrial Hosting - Companies allied Hewlett Packard, Dell or IBM, spring the server infrastructure for most of these host companies.

The SOHO business owner will ofttimes need the Web - Hosting ISP services. It is the middle ground between the basic and advanced services.
Now you can be a confident expert on hosting. OK, maybe not an expert. But you should have something to bring to the table next time you join a discussion on hosting.

Why the Internet?

Of course, many opportunities to make money everywhere. Some of them in the real estate property, stock exchanges, initial public offerings, foreign exchange, speculation, multi-level marketing type of Amway, or become insurance agent or agency bonds
But however, I point out below my reasons why I want you to consider the Internet as ONE OF THE BEST and ONLY way to make money quickly, easily and without high risk:

1. Internet Growing fast
Based on actual Alexa statistics, we can see more and more people use the Internet worldwide. Appropriate use of the Internet's growing, as well as all forms of opportunities on the Internet growing exponentially. Your Market IS VERY BIG.

2. Easy, Fast and Much More Safe
Nahk, here are a few reasons why you better concentrate on the Internet. Which you certainly do not have to have a large capital to start a business on the Internet. And you can immediately return on investment.

3. No Need of Capital
You do not need a large venture capital as you often see in other business sectors. Maybe you need a computer or the money to lease computers in Internet cafes that do not have their own computer. Capital is very small compared to the effort to open a restaurant instead?

4. Small Risk
Almost no risk at all. At the very least, you will only lose a little money to buy the Book-E or the cost for Google Adwords, you certainly will not lose money, to be in debt to repay.
STYLE SECRET INTERNET BILLIONAIRE INDONESIA

5. Can Do Part-Time & From Home
You can try your Internet business from home while you still have a steady job. Therefore, even if you do not get any benefits from these efforts, at least you still have a steady income from your job. Not like having a restaurant business, where you have to quit your job and work full to start. If you want, you can do anything about this business from home, or can take a coffee at Starbucks that provides Internet connection at the end of the week!

MLM Business Leads-Why getting appointments for presentations is hard

As a professional network marketer, I am sure you have noticed that it is not always easy to get presentations with our mlm business leads. There is a reason for this according to mlm marketing expert, Tom, Big Al, Schreiter:

Why getting appointments for presentations is so hard.

In 1959, there were no:

* cell phones
* text messages
* cable television channels
* email addresses
* Facebook pages
* after-school activities.

So if you asked someone,

"Can I give you a 30-minute presentation about my new business opportunity?"

They would reply:

"Woo-hoo! Entertainment!"

Because there wasn't anything to do in 1959.

But what year is it now?

2009.

In 2009, prospects have:

* cell phones
* text messages
* cable television channels
* email addresses
* Facebook pages
* and hundreds of after-school activities.

Yes, prospects are very busy in 2009.

And if you are still trying to give 30-minute presentations now, you are trying to do business in 2009 with ancient 1959 dinosaur techniques. And you will end up extinct, just like the dinosaurs.

You are swimming uphill.

What can you do?

For today's world, you want to learn how to give a complete and total presentation in one minute. During that minute you will answer the prospect's three trigger questions, explain your product line, and explain your compensation plan.

Then, at the end of your one-minute presentation, the prospect can make an immediate decision. You save time. The prospect saves time.

But what's more important is that, even if your presentation is only one minute, what is your prospect thinking at the end of one minute?

"I can do this!"

The biggest reason prospects don't join is because they can't see themselves doing our business. The one-minute presentation solves that roadblock.

Give it a try. You'll never go back.

And if you don't know how to give a one-minute presentation, you can learn.

Simply take the no-cost, seven-lesson mini-course now. It's easy and only takes a few minutes per lesson.

Logo Hampered Ontologies

I'm beat after another long session battering about the pros and cons of the big three Logo Hampered Ontologies.

Yes, 'Logo Hampered Ontologies'.

Ok, so it's an anagram for: 'Moodle, Google, Sharepoint'. But it's apt. And it's been consuming me.

The short of it: me and a few folks at school are thinking about which of the three will best serve the needs of teachers and students in a 21C setting.

Each have strong points. Each have weak points.

Moodle is 'made' for education. But it's definitely a work-in-progress and may have scalability issues. I also feel like it's sort of set up as a digital version of a 20th century classroom (i.e. it does tests and quizzes really well, but how well does it integrate with multimedia and social networking?)

Google Apps for Ed has all the parts for free -- and the sites are housed on the Cloud; but 'Sites' is pretty clunky (even compared to other free site-building services like Weebly and Wix) and there's quite a learning curve (especially with Wave).

Sharepoint is solid in its own way, but its dropboxes and calendars pale in comparison to Web 2.0 alternatives. And I'm just not convinced that its wiki or blog functions can touch dedicated sites like Wikispaces, Blogger, and WordPress. I've also had so much difficulty running 3rd party ware on MS browsers (and long since given up), that I just don't have much faith in the accessibility and flexibility of Sharepoint. But I may just be out-of-touch with what MS has been developing.

I'd really like to know what you all have to say about these Logo Hampered Ontologies.

What have you used? What do you use? What are the pros and cons and if you were the one making the call, which way would you go?

Looking forward to your responses; and please forward this on to folks who can extend the discussion; I really want to get an idea of what people's experiences are with these three monsters.

What is Web Hosting?

Have you ever wondered if what you know about hosting is accurate? Consider the following paragraphs and compare what you know to the latest info on hosting. A web hosting service provides a service that allows individuals and businesses to post web pages to the internet. A web hosting service provider sells or for free ( with advertisements on the web page ) is a business that provides the servers and technologies to view web - sites on the internet.

Web hosting services are services that customers can utilize after they obtain purchased reminder dial up or broadband services that allow them access to the internet. Web hosting services use hosting and client architecture to load content to the server so web pages and information can be viewed on the internet in its first-hand HTML format.

A web hosting company leave offer clients access to a server that will provide the clients’ content to individuals on the World Wide Web after they make a URL or domain name inquiry. To view pages on the web, you the urge have a web browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator to request the web page from the server after you have purchased internet access.

You may not consider everything you just read to be crucial information about hosting. But don't be surprised if you find yourself recalling and using this very information in the next few days.

Web sites are pages that are stored on a computer called a server. The server is a part of a network of computers on the internet or World Wide Web that allows users of the internet to spread your site anywhere in the world at anytime. The internet is open 24 hours, seven days a week around the clock.

Host computers are configured so that when your URL or domain name is typed in, the label will use a pointer routine ( look for the address from terminal to terminal ) until it reaches the computer that hosts your web - site. Then, if all is okay, your web site should display itself on the users keep from.

Hosting companies require that you buy your URL or domain name first before you purchase hosting services. Most hosting companies have a package that commit allow you to buy the domain name and hosting at the same time.

Hopefully the sections above have contributed to your understanding of hosting. Share your new understanding about hosting with others. They'll thank you for it.
