I have just started with taking a quick peek at the MonaVie site. I'm interested in the ingredients. Listed in their Essentials juice is Acai, grapes, raspberries, wolfberry, aronia (chokeberries), camu camu (super expensive and comes from Peru), Maqui (Chilean wineberry, from Chile and Argentina), acerola (a southern U.S. berry), cupuaƧu (from Peru and Columbia and northern Brazil), bilberries (from Finland. Very difficult to harvest and transport, and is very expensive), banana, cranberry, kiwi, prunes, black currants, and another expensive import from South America - jabuticaba. I read up on all of this at Wikipedia, very easy to access info. So lots of anti-oxidants, lots of Vitamin C. And that's great. I saw "superfruit" alot. Better than synthetic Vitamin C - that's a given. Difficult to grow and harvest was another subject that came up alot, plantations suggested but would take employment away from the local Peruvian farmers deep in the jungles who rely on selling these fruits for their livelihood.
Ok, so comparing the two brands:
MonaVie - anti-oxidents, lots and lots of vitamin C, chokecherries providing anti-inflamatory properties, super expensive superfruits that are difficult to produce and are very expensive, may affect indigenous people's way of living. The juices come in four different varieties. One is the ingredients described above and have colon cancer fighting properties. One is for active people and has both white and purple grapes in it, lychee and other fruits. One is for heart health and designed for that, again different ingredients. The fourth blend is an acai/maqui blend. I thought maqui and acai were already blended in the other juices. I am unable to find disclosure if there are any additives to the juices on the website. For instance, are vitamins added, and if so how much? Is there water added? Sugar?
YouthJuice - anti-oxidents, anti-inflammatories, the options of the juice are the puree alone or get it with the added dose of daily vitamins (Restor). All the berries and sea veggies are grown organically in BC. Cancer fighting properties, heart health, inflamation reduction - all covered in one juice. Over $100 of berries crammed into the one bottle. Full disclosure on the web site and on the bottles, you know exactly what you are drinking before you even open a bottle. Before you buy a bottle. Before you sign up.
By the way, the University of Calgary is conducting studies into how YouthJuice helps clear up acne.
