After years of holding Masses in a rented space, the Traditional Latin Mass(TLM) community of Oklahoma City at last has a permanent home.
From the beginning, the Most Reverend Eusebius J. Beltran, Archbishop of Oklahoma City has shown his support of this small but vital community. In the beginning, he helped the small group to find a rented space and then as their numbers increased and they began to look for a permanent home, he gave his blessing for the new church to be built upon the site of St Patrick's Catholic Church which was razed in 1960.
Ground was broken for the new church on November 2, 2009 and in February of this year, the Archbishop announced that the church would be named for the newly canonized St Damian of Molokai. How fitting to have a new saint for this new church!
The church was officially opened two weeks ago and has held standing-room only Masses both weekends. I pray that it will always be so.
In an age of puppet Masses, liberal looniness, and liturgical abuse, the good people of Oklahoma are holding the line, and with the help of our shepherd, are pushing back against secularism and a watering down of Catholic teaching and orthodoxy. God bless Archbishop Beltran and may He fill His Church with such stalwart and faith-filled men.
