I've had an Epiphany...

... and it is that I feel cheated. I woke up today went to work and realized Christmas & Christmastide are over. [They aren't really... but good luck explaining that to...well... the Amercian Catholic Church.] The whole thing is quite confusing and requires calculus and a slide rule to figure out so I won't go over ALL the permutations, but let's just say we pretty much get cheated out of a feast day or two.

I know there is a lot going on this time of year in the Church... but shouldn't there be? It *IS* the new liturgical year? It should be quite simple... Christmas & Christmastide beging on December 25th. We then have the Marian Feast on the 1st of January and Epiphany on the 6th. Instead we start cramming the dates all together.

Wouldn't have been nice to go to work today coming off a long weekend only to know that we had a FEAST DAY to celebrate in proper course on Wednesday? We would have the last 2 days of Christmastide [Sorry, drummers and pipers... you lose out this year :(] and would have a nice end to the season. Instead... the American Catholic Church has decided we will get rid of "combine" the Feasts into Sundays. I just wish we could keep the meaning in these things... is it all that awful to get to Church? In the grand scheme of things we are talking one night that ISN'T a recognized U.S. holiday.

Maybe it's just me... but I think the tradition would be nice to keep. This is true for ALL the Holy Days of Obligation that have been messed with...
