Value Proposition Versioning basically means offering different versions of a value proposition for the customer to choose from. The objective is to charge each customer just as much as he or she is willing to pay for. A common example is books that are sold in hardback copies priced higher initially to customers who are impatient to get the book, while later released as paperback to lower-value customers that can more easily wait.
Versioning works for all kinds of goods and services, and it has become almost a standard in web based products and services even though the marginal costs to distribute a high-end version often is identical to the low-end version. The Freemium Business Model is basically a way of versioning where the free version is provided to create the lowest possible barrier of adoption with the objective to gain a large customer base, build loyalty and trust, and convert some of the customers to fee-based premium versions.
Pricing the different versions
Value is subjective and people attach different values to different value propositions so the challenge is to properly segment users and features such that customers who are able and willing to pay high prices do so. If the low-end versions are too attractive, it may attract some customers who would otherwise pay a premium price for a high-end version. To avoid this cannibalization the relative price difference or the relative value provided can be altered.
Identifying dimensions that are valued differently
The basis for versioning is to identify dimensions that are highly valued by some customers but of little importance to others. The goal is then to develop value propositions to sell to different market segments at different prices. Below is a list to be used to identify potential dimensions from which different versions of a value proposition can be developed. To identify what dimensions that are relevant, each of the different business model components and the potential markets need to be analyzed.
Dimensions to build different versions of a value proposition from
Annoyance
Capabilities
Comprehensiveness
Convenience
Delay
Delivery time
Experience
Exclusivity

Flexibility
Functions
Performance

How many versions?
This is a highly context dependent question that comes down to what makes good business sense. Too few versions and the customer have limited choice to pay what he or she is willing to pay for. Too many versions and the customer might be confused and the costs for maintaining and offering different value propositions might be too high.
A common approach in everything from drinks at McDonalds to million dollar consultancy projects, is to have at least three versions; one low-end version to advertise and get attention, one very high-end version and one "standard" offer. The rationale for having the very high-end version is to enhance customers’ perceptions of lower-priced products and make the standard version look more attractive in comparison to the very high-end version. One very interesting approach to versioning is The Trent Reznor case study that resulted in $1.6 Million in a week for music offered in many different versions, with one of them being free.

My Affiliate Marketing Predictions!
I know is a little late, but I needed to be sure in this unsure economy! I didn't want to give you a niche that look that maybe will be a profitable one without having some kind of market research data to back it up. Well, here are some hot products to sell online or promote as an affiliate:
1. - Automobiles.
All the problems in the car industry you will never though there will be a chance of monetization, but sometimes appearances are deceiving, because after all the low new car sales, used cars demand is very high. People try to downsize their car to an used more affordable one, and those with new cars are switching for a used one to avoid monthly payments. Also as the unemployment keep rising those people need to look for more inexpensive ways of transportation.
Another trends that are in the demand are used car parts, car cleaning products, DIY car fixing information (Books), and auto detailing services.
2. - Entrepreneur Educational Products.
As you a lot of people are getting unemployed, and in look for a way to regain their incomes, most of those jobless peoples are going to get inside their entrepreneurial mindset and find different ways to learn how to make money. The Wall Street Journal did a research where they learn that a lot of these people are going to try to start an online business instead of an offline one or they are going to find some kind of virtual job.
All this people are potential prospects to buy or become opt-in leads for a training course that will teach them Internet marketing and how to make money online. As affiliate you have a good market here, now remember that most of these new marketers are newbies, so try to promote courses that are design for beginners not intermediate or advanced.
Also you can put together a content site like a blog or niche social network and monetize it with AdSense, CPA offers, and in-house advertising sales. This trend also open doors for are next trend...
3. - Low Cost Business Opportunities.
Forget about it if you try to promote an expensive business opportunity, you are better off promoting a low cost one and make money by the quantity. Just make sure whatever you promote is ethical, legal, paid high commissions, if possible residual income, and is on demand.
You can also make a combination of trend number 2 and 3 and cross promote business educational products to have multi revenue streams.
4. - Web And Mobile Applications.
Get the linsence to use the API of a affiliate program like Netflix or Amazon and hire software developers to create apps that will help users find movies or books right from their mobile phones or favorite web 2.0 site.
A good market for mobile apps are the iPhone, Smart Phones, and Android Base Phones. And if you want to create applications for the web most popular social networks you need to start with Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, FriendFeed, Google Blogger, and Ning.
There is more hottest trends that will be revealed insight the Trend vs. Trends site.

Today we're excited to announce a little something to bring some flair to people's Gmail accounts for all editions of Google Apps.
Google Apps now offers more than 30 Gmail account theme choices ranging from weather themes that are customized for your location, to nature themes that change with your timezone, to themes that are just plain fun and funky.
Themes in Gmail give you a chance to customize your inbox, and your theme settings travel with you wherever you log in to your account, just like all the information in your inbox. You can customize your inbox by clicking 'Themes' in the 'Settings' menu once your account administrator enables the 'Turn on new features' checkbox in the Google Apps control panel.
Please note that not all Gmail accounts will have these immediately – we're rolling out Themes right now, and all domains with new features enabled by their admins will see 'Themes' in 'Settings' in the next few days.
Explore the Themes possibilities – they might make opening your inbox a little more fun.
It should be noted that these podcasts might not be the most exciting thing to every student, as they are spoken in a rather professorial lecture style. But for students who like that sort of thing, they are an excellent extension for learning as well as a nice introduction to the style of speaking about art common to academia.
RedStudio is one of the hidden gems of the Internet. A site developed by the Museum of Modern Art in NYC, it is a place for students to explore and to engage with the complex world of Modern Art.
Here's a series of interviews posted on the site. Each is conducted by a group of teens and they feature such heavy-hitters as MoMA curators Paola Antonelli and Joachim Pissaro as well as Pixar's Ralph Eggleston.
Editor's Note: The spam data cited in this post is drawn from the Google enterprise security and archiving security network (Postini), which delivers an added layer of security for standalone mail servers and Google Apps Premier Edition customers. For a discussion of the anti-spam measures included in Gmail, please see this post from the Gmail blog.
In providing email security to more than 50,000 businesses and 15 million business users, Google security and archiving services, powered by Postini, process and cull spam from more than three billion enterprise email connections every day. This gives us strong insights into the state of the spam industry, some of which we share in regular posts to this blog.
Read on for a quick overview of spam trends and events in the first quarter of 2009.
Spammers have clearly rallied following the McColo takedown, and overall spam volume growth during Q1 2009 was the strongest it's been since early 2008, increasing an average of 1.2% per day. To put that number into context, the growth rate of spam volume in Q1 2008 was approximately 1% per day – which, at the time, was a record high.
Of course, like every year before it, 2008 set a new record for overall spam volume. But in 2008 spam growth flattened over the summer and early fall, and then fell off a cliff after the McColo takedown (daily growth declined to .8%, .3%, and then .01% in the last three quarters of the year). This pattern raises some interesting questions regarding what we can expect in the rest of 2009: Will spam growth once again flatten or decline after a strong first quarter? Or have spammers – as part of their recovery from the McColo takedown – rebuilt botnets to be capable of sustaining or even accelerating this early growth spurt?
It's difficult to ascertain exactly how spammers have rebuilt in the wake of McColo, but data suggests they're adopting new strategies to avoid a McColo-type takedown from occurring again. Specifically, the recent upward trajectory of spam could indicate that spammers are building botnets that are more robust but send less volume – or at least that they haven't enabled their botnets to run at full capacity because they're wary of exposing a new ISP as a target.
New types of spam
The most significant development in spam vectors this quarter was the appearance of location-based spam. In this type of attack, users click on a link in a spam message and are directed to a page that contains a fraudulent news headline describing a crisis or disaster in a major city nearby. The attack customizes the location for each user by determining the geolocation of the user's source IP and then identifying the nearest major city. The addition of location creates a heightened level of interest, and the user is tempted to click on the embedded video – which in turn downloads a virus to his or her machine.
Meanwhile, the economy, financial markets, job cuts, and resume help continue to be the most prominent topics spammers are employing as lures for more traditional attacks. We also saw increased spam activity around the U.S. presidential inauguration and St. Patrick's Day, in keeping with the recent propensity spammers have demonstrated for reading the news and keeping their eyes on the holiday calendar in targeting their attacks.
Virus roundup
In early 2008, a trend emerged in which we saw spam messages with attached viruses (otherwise known as "payload viruses") spiking every Sunday, possibly targeting a maintenance window to catch corporate defenses when they were undergoing scheduled updates.
This year we've seen the payload viruses spread out across every day of the week, with no immediately obvious pattern in their distribution. It's difficult to say for certain what prompted the change, but one possible explanation is that spammers switched tactics because they weren't seeing the success they'd hoped for from the focused attacks.
Of course, payload viruses have also seen a recent spike overall -- in the month of March we saw a 9x increase from February. This pales in comparison to the highs we saw last summer, but it may indicate a developing trend that's worth keeping a close eye on.
Viruses delivered as a blended threat (when a spam message directs a user to a malicious website, which then results in a virus being downloaded to the user's computer) continue to be popular with spammers. E-cards are one of the best examples of this vector, and Valentine's Day saw a flurry of activity using e-cards to direct users to malicious websites.
Conclusions
Spammers continue to prove their resilience -- whether it's bouncing back from the biggest takedown on record or finding new ways to exploit the ways we communicate for malicious purposes, they're clearly here to stay. And Google believes firmly in the power of the cloud to protect your enterprise from them: Outsourcing message security to Google enables you to leverage our technical expertise and massive infrastructure to keep spammers from your door. There's been a lot of talk recently about 21st Century Skills. But most of this talk has been between folks who stand to make a lot of money off the use of tech on the one side and folks who are suspicious of -- if not fundamentally opposed to -- tech on the other. Like most discussions in education, the voice missing in the debate is that of the students themselves.
So, I asked students in one of my paperless high school Latin classes to tell me how things were going for them. I wanted to know whether or not they felt like the tech we use in class was actually helping them. Here are a few of the responses. These are unedited and range from the top student in the class to a student facing a serious uphill climb marching into fourth quarter. They've all got something to say.
Student:
I think the paperless classroom is great. I like the blogs because I can keep everything straight knowing what I turned in and what I need to finish. I also like Pixton. It's very fun and easy to use.
One thing I definitely don't like is the Google Docs. They take too much time to work on I feel like because sometimes it deletes your work if another person is editing at the same time. They do work as far as putting work together for you to see, but for a class to use, it doesn't work out.
Student:
So all in all, I really like the idea of a paperless classroom; it makes doing work at home and in class much easier.
I love using blogger as a place to keep all my work in class. It makes organization and being able to access my work on another computer so much easier.
For the most part, I think I really like Pixton. It helps me get the translations in my head. I can guarantee that if any of those translations were to come up on an exam or something, I would remember them because of the comics. The only thing I don't like about it is that it freezes up too much. Now maybe it's just my computer or maybe it's not, I'm not entirely sure, but it definitely makes a six slide comic about two hours to make. I think if it could respond a little faster, the comics would be so much easier to make and not half as frustrating as they can be now.
The only thing I absolutely hate above all things computer-related is Google Docs. I seriously just want to murder it. Whenever we're all working on a document at the same time, it will suddenly refresh without saving my work and scroll me all the way back up to the top of the document. This makes work that should last maybe a half an hour tops take and hour and half! I think the problem might be that all of us can't work on it at once. I don't really know how much group work you could get accomplished that way but I really don't think Google Docs is working for us.
Student:
I think Blogger is a really good website to use and it's really easy to use. I like how it keeps everything organized. It is also very easy to find past assignments. It will be a nice portfolio after we graduate. Blogger sometimes doesn’t load at school though. It only works at my house.
I like Pixton but I think it is only effective for short translations. If the paragraph is really long, I find Pixton to be tedious . Plus if the text is really long, it takes up a lot of space on the panel, leaving no room for the animation.
Google Docs does have potential but it is kind of annoying right now. Our group for the radio show is actually using it to write the script .
I love Whitaker's Words [an online Latin-English dictionary]. I find it very resourceful! I don’t even use other dictionaries anymore.
Student:
The use of the computer helps very much in Latin class. In most classes we just listen to the teacher talk for 40 minutes, so most of the information doesn't sink in. In Latin we learn with interactive programs, such as Pixton and Blogger. Learning is much easier and more fun when there is visual aids and class participation included. Also we do many interesting and different projects about once every two weeks. Each project is unique and fun, and range from making a Google Doc, to making your own radio show. These projects are much more entertaining and productive then doing worksheets and getting lectures every class. The only downside to the computer is the technical issues, like when blogger is down, or if you have a hardware issue. Overall I enjoy the use of the computer in class and I think I have learned a great deal more because it.
Check it out and try my favourite Kettlebell Workout below.
Q - When did you first see a Kettlebell?
A - I used to see kettlebells in the old Muscle and Fitness magazines when I was younger, but didn’t pay too much attention to them then. In 2005 I was re-introduced by my close friend Ryan Shanahan and what an introduction it was. At first I was very sceptical about what a strange looking ball with handles could really do for me. I mean, how can you do bicep curls or bench presses or good ole squats with these things? Wow, did that thought change quickly after my first workout.
Q -Describe your first time picking up Kettlebell?
A - When I first picked up a Kettlebell, it was a little awkward as I wasn’t sure what to do with them, but when you learn how to use them, it’s unbelievable how fast the gains can be. I found out Kettlebells sculpt crazy muscle definition, made my body feel incredible day to day and I can honestly say that even playing volleyball was easier.
Because Kettlebell exercise form is so dynamic I felt muscles in my body that had not been used for a while. Kettlebell workouts are definitely a muscle wakeup call!
Now I understand why Champion athletes use kettlebells.
Q -What is your favourite Kettlebell exercise?
A - My favourite exercise has to be the one arm swing – I love that one. I also came up with a Kettlebell exercise called “Slow Cleans” which I use as a staple in my Bicep training. Girls dig Big Biceps.
Q -Why do you Love Kettlebells?
A - I Love my Kettlebell because my physical achievement while working with kettlebells has been monumental. While training with gym weights has always been great, kettlebells have taken my muscle definition and strength to the next level. After a month of incorporating kettlebells into my usual workouts, I jumped to pressing 125dumbells for reps of 10, when I could only do 100lbs before. If those aren’t results, I don’t know what are.
My favourite aspect of the Kettlebell was not only finding them but teaching them to others. During my Funk Roberts Fitness Bootcamp, the kettlebells was an all-time favourite for the trainees. Although they were difficult at first all the trainees were excited to use them, because they felt and saw results. “Funk, Funk can we please use the kettlebells this session”Kettlebells are a treat that gives trainees crazy results.
Not really sure about that question, I paid some programmers in India to make a 3 different type of applications 2 for mobile phones and another for the web. What I can tell you is that if is done right works like magic, really to monetize, with a mix of Netflix affiliate program, CPA programs, and Adsense.
The mobile apps already generating an steady monthly income, nothing really big, but I didn't use any type of paid advertising, just word-of-mouth and viral marketing strategies. Now the apps are been used by a lot of phone users in Massachusetts, Ecuador, Spain, Italy, and a few other countries.
The Marketing.
The only thing I did was text or SMS my familly and friends about this new application, and the rest was just story. Yes, that's it! Sorry, is not crazy super powerful marketing strategy behind it, just a simple text message.
My mobile application are targetting iPhone users and Andromeda phone users, here is a video that is reviewing an app closed to the one I have developed, check it out so you can get a clear idea of how your mobile Netflix API application can work and do:
As you can see is a simple but very useful mini-software that cellphone users love to have. Mine is a little more advanced than the one on the video, because it let users add their own reviews, watch trailers, leave comments, easy share with Twitter - Facebook - Myspace - Digg, see movie pictures, buy the movie at Amazon, or see releted ads from Google Adsense.
The web app is getting there making commissions here and there but nothing steady yet... Now remember that I only paid $300 per application, $200 for web design, and $70/year for hosting, which already got back.
Affiliate Marketing and Money Money Online Ideas.
I also recommend you to build applications base on popular web publishing and social tools. I think you leverage the membership size of these online social networks and web 2.0 tools to make your path to profit a lot easier.
Just to mention a few... Find the most asurable for you, if you have the budget don't spot at one, instead create a web application for each of those networks.
In Conclusion: There is no excuse for you not to monetize in this huge opportunity, and don't let this big lies stop you:
- But a lot of people already have Netflix accounts. - Which one to choose from. - I don't gave time. - I don't have money to advertise. - Don't know how to promote the apps.
All of those lies and fake excuses are for loosers, and you are a winner, i know that because you spend time reading this article to learn the "how", which means you have the desire to make a change in your life. Now is just about taking action, and do like Nike "Just Do It!".
Today's free network marketing information post hails from a generous gentleman who has been helping me improve my article writing skills and has been critiquing my work. He knows his stuff and if you are someone who desires to get more blog traffic and traffic to your other websites, you'll want to pay attention to what he has to say!
I highly respect him, Mr. Richard Dennis. Here is a great article he wrote about how to get Google to drool over your articles!
Blog Traffic Techniques by Richard Dennis
If you’ve done an analysis of Google Drools, you know we have a content advertising system that can get #1 rankings on Google searches almost at will. Some search engine results really tickle me. Click on this writing niche article I submitted a couple days ago:
It’s #1 on Google … against over 30 MILLION competing pages! But I digress.
A big part of my productivity optimization plan has been to post unique, targeted articles at a popular website with a proven strong connection to Google - like EzineArticles.com. Ultimately, you want to build your blog into that type of high quality, interactive, authority website, with lots of inbound links.
As with any marketing promotion, this one needs to be tested and measured and proven. Recently, I’ve seen a not-very-well-known blogger get high Google rank on a moderately competitive keyword by publishing a simple post with (1) good latent semantic indexing and (2) a keyword-rich title.
That tactic is pretty exciting, because those 2 performance factors are certainly the easiest to achieve. Becoming a visible and recognized authority website with a ton of inbound links will definitely take longer. If you can skip that qualification, then you can have profitable results much sooner.
And that’s the focus of this post. My blog is certainly not a branded authority resource to Google. Net Traffic Machine is still only a couple months’ old. It only has a couple dozen posts.
And so THIS post is a mission to test whether NTM can achieve high Google rank for the keyword phrase blog traffic techniques. Can this signature blog content beat out 681,000 other references for top rank for this keyword phrase? If so, that is a strong indication that ranking success can come much quicker than anticipated.
Also … the importance of a high Google listing is that:
You’re not paying for it, because you’re showing up in natural search, not Google Adwords.
The prospects who find you are pretty much your perfect audience, because you have chosen a title that demonstrates exactly what you offer them, and they are searching for that exact product or service, or something very close to it. Sounds to me like a match made in heaven.

Raw Results is a normal Google search for the phrase. These results contain the search words somewhere on the results page. Exact Match means the keyword phrase was searched with quotation marks, pulling up only pages containing that exact phrase.
Conclusions: Consider the statistics difference between “blog traffic” and the others. Obviously, more pages will contain your 2-word phrase than your 3-word phrase. Plus … more searchers will enter a 2-word phrase than a 3-word phrase. The shorter your keyword phrase, the more searchers you’ll appeal to … but the more competition you’ll have, and the more difficult it will be to be ranked on the first page of Google results. There is no chance I’d get 1st page Google results for “blog traffic.” But choosing “blog traffic techniques” thins out the competition, but still gives me a short phrase that is likely to result in substantial popular searches.
And it’s not like the competitors are a bunch of rabid football fans or political strategists or underwater basket weavers. THESE people are webmasters and online marketers. These guys know the difference between Cpanel and HTML and RSS and SEO. They’ve studied and often gotten very good at optimizing their website traffic.
But my thinking is that there is less competition for this keyword phrase than several others on the list. So I’ll test this one first … then, if successful, go after the others one-by-one.
Optimizing the Article I feel like I’ve talked Latent Semantic Indexing to death. If you haven’t heard the audio Google Drools, then opt-in to the right of this post, get a copy of the audio, and listen to it.
There’s just no debate that Google really values proper LSI in your articles. You can’t do keyword stuffing (many repetitions of the same keyword) - you’ll get penalized for that. But using a number of closely related words in your articles is an effective way of demonstrating to Google that this is an authority article.
Creating The Buzz The Net Traffic Machine website was inspired by Charles Heflin’s work at Social Media Science. Charles has developed software to make it easy to promote your blog posts through social networks, getting more attention. If you haven’t read Charles’ Syndication Revelation, I highly recommend it.
So … I’m targeting this blog post for a high Google rank for the phrase blog traffic techniques. Stay tuned over the next couple weeks to see how this all works.
Today, we're making it simpler to bring richer content, interaction and tracking to your online display ads with our new Rich Media and Video templates in the AdWords display ad builder. These templates allow you to add more functionality to your ads, enabling users to interact with your ads before they click through. Here's what you can do with these new templates:
Show off multiple products and services: If you're providing many products and services, the new templates allow you to display multiple products within your ad. This feature can also benefit advertisers looking to brand by allowing them to tell a sequential story within the ad, such as "Explore, Buy, Save," where you could have an image representing each concept.
Use multiple destination URLs: If you're displaying multiple products within your ad, the new templates allow you to assign a different destination URL to each featured product, rather than directing users who click to a single, generic page that may be less targeted. This can help improve conversion rates, making your marketing more cost-efficient. Note that all the top-level domains of each destination URL within an ad must match.
Track interactions: Like with all our display ad templates, you'll automatically see a reporting column,"Mouseover rate," which shows the percentage of impressions where a user moused over your ad for one or more consecutive seconds. In addition, some rich media and video templates will track unique interactions, like the play rate for video ads; these will be displayed in a new "Interaction Rate" column. The actual interaction being tracked will vary based on the template you've chosen.
Use video: If you have video ad files, you can upload them to our new Click to Play video template, which allows you to choose starting and ending images, pick a display URL color, and run your ads across the Google Content Network.
Get creative: Last week, we announced new coupon templates, which allow you to set discounts and change prices within your ad. You can use these templates in the same way, offering multiple discounted products and allowing users to choose those that most interest them. Along with each image in your ad, you can include an accompanying description line that you can use to provide coupon codes, prices, and product information. This is just one of many ways to think and market "outside the box" with these rich media and video templates.
All this is easy to do in just minutes, and this video can show you how:
If you have trouble watching the video, you can watch it here.
You can access the new templates within your AdWords account by choosing the "Display ad builder" ad format option within any ad group and selecting the "Rich Media and Video" category.
We hope these new templates will give you one more great reason to try out the AdWords display ad builder, and reach additional customers in new ways.

I've added a few examples of 'student paperless-ness' to the sidebar here on the TeachPaperless site.
Included are clips from a paperless term paper as well as student blogs and projects. I left them in micro-versions just to give you an idea of some of the things you can do with blogs. Experiment widely with your own class blogs and tell me what sorts of things you've come up with.
Regular readers know that I occasionally like to post sample paperless assignments for your review. Here's a recent one from my Latin III class. This was a quarter project based on all of the poems we read over the last three months. The students had three weeks to complete the project outside of class.
This assignment requires students to translate the original Latin from at least ten poems, summarize biographical information, and synthesize art and life in the form of a compelling and well-constructed series of conversations between the historical actors about the poetry of their lives. As usual, students also use the project to extend their personal hyperlinked bibliographies of ancient sources and modern scholarship.
For non-Latin folks: Catullus was a lyric poet and Lesbia was the object of his affection (as well as his passion-spurned envious yet pithy wrath)...
A Journal of Hate and Love
You are either a) Catullus or b) Lesbia.
You are keeping a blog about your relationship.
Your journal must be ten posts long. The posts will be written from the point-of-view of one of the two characters. Then, you will write three to four comments back and forth to each post -- one from one character, the next in reply, and so on...
The blog must be separate and distinct from your own blog. It should include pics and multimedia/apps/widgets to look like Cat's or Lesbia's own personal blog.
Requirements:
1. You must cite in the original Latin and in your own English translation 10 lines of Catullus' poetry in each post.
2. The conversation between Catullus and Lesbia must be referencing the poems themselves. So, for instance, if you do poem 5 from Catullus' point-of-view, he in his post would have to talk about how crazy he is for Lesbia and in her comments on his blog, she would be responding to this and perhaps use lines from his own poem to make fun of him.
This is a work of Historical Fiction. The 'Historical' part being as important as the 'Fiction'. Please keep an annotated hyperlinked bibliography on your own blog.
Due: March 25th. Double-weighted.
Be creative, do your best work. In terms of dates, please figure out what the Roman dates would be for each post of your conversation.
Governments everywhere are struggling with unprecedented challenges. They're expected to reignite a global economy in free-fall, while grappling with crumbling infrastructure, aging populations, declining quality in education and healthcare -- plus a heightened social concern about preserving the environment.
All in a budgetary environment of declining tax revenues.
Like the private sector, governments are now turning to technology to help them to improve both the delivery of government services and to promote overall economic growth.
Building 21st Century Economies Like the waterways and highways of previous centuries, government leaders recognize they must create essential tech infrastructure to fuel innovation-led growth and prosperity. High-speed broadband is seen as a catalyst for encouraging economic development. However, meaningful services are required to stimulate demand.
For example, Germany has committed €4.6 Billion to install Telepresence capabilities throughout its schools -- to improve the quality of its education system, while reducing costs.
Similar to the access of electricity and the telephone, governments recognize the social equity of providing broadband access to everyone. Thereby using technology to improve the quality of inner-city schools, encourage more telecommuting and increase the productivity of rural economies.
Delivering 21st Century Public Services There are significant opportunities for progressive governments to:
Reduce Costs of Delivery – delivering online services, collaboration tools, and video, not only lowers costs to serve but enhances the overall customer experience.
Empower Citizens – employing Web 2.0 capabilities, such as collaboration and social networking, allows citizens to more easily interact with their government.
Improve Levels of Service – Kiosks, Telepresence units, or VoIP enabled call centers for 311 calls, raises service levels and the overall experience.
Creating 21st Century Governments Both taxpayers and public servants now recognize that the business of government must evolve, and that technology plays a critical role in this transformation. Likewise, technology providers can choose to partner with governments on this journey.
Research by Cisco IBSG (the company's strategic consulting arm) reveals that the public sector has a number of unique requirements:
Funding Models – providers must find creative new ways to pay for the new technologies, such as managed services and public-private partnerships.
Skill Shortages – hiring freezes and lack of skills, means that governments require significant help in design, implementation and management of technology.
Integrated Solutions – across multiple departments and levels of government, but also with not-for-profits, agencies, multiple partners and other parties.
Innovation – the private sector can proactively bring new and innovative solutions to legacy problems -- seeding the transformation.
Managed Services offers a proven way to help transform government for the 21st Century. However, service providers will need to recognize the unique needs of the public sector and to partner with the champions of progress, to address their most pressing challenges.

A work conference in Madrid opened up the chance to fly with British Airways long haul Business Class (or Club World). It is now a piece of Air industry folk law that one of the main outcomes battle between BA Club World and Virgin Atlantic’s Upper Class for UK customer traffic to the US resulted in BA introducing a fully flat bed into business class, changing the definition of long haul business class forever.
I remember the first time I tried the BA flat bed and it was a revelation.Today some 9 years later and the product is even better. For your BOOT correspondent the seat is the best in the sky.I think Singapore Airlines has an edge in Service, Qantas has an edge in food and Virgin Atlantic has an edge in the BOOT factor (that something extra) but judged stand alone on the seat I prefer BA’s Club World to any other business class seat I have tried. On seat alone BA would win against another seat review so far.The overall rating has been let down by the entertainment system, placement of World Traveller (premium economy) and online check-in experience (probably highlighting a flaw in my scoring system).
The Boarding process was uneventful but my check in process was a disappointment.I checked in online about 8 hours before the flight. This is supposed to be an advantage as it means I can get to the airport later and should have pick of seats. In the end it was a significant disadvantage.Firstly I could not print out a priority pass for going through Immigration quickly. The immigration priority queue requires this pass – it is not enough to have a premium class boarding pass.[thankfully I always carry a spare priority pass for these occasions].Secondly I could not check in all the way even though my London to Madrid leg is also on BA, because it is on a separate ticket. My colleague checking in at the airport was given a boarding pass for the whole trip but I had to wait until I arrived in London to get my final boarding pass. Finally the machines at the gates are not designed to support bar code boarding passes – only magnetic strip ones.It meant that I had to pause at each gate while they looked me up manually.I will not be checking in for long haul BA again. Getting off the plane is also annoying. World Traveller Plus (BA’s premium economy) is physically located between First and Business,Means that if the front door is the only door opened that premium economy gets off before business.Sounds petty to type it out loud but every person ahead of me off the plane is a person ahead of me in the immigration queue, customs or quarantine queue and taxi queue. Each person adds minutes to me getting to my destination.40 people can therefore add a annoying additional time to me getting where I want to go.
The Seat
Score 1.0
This will be the shortest part of the review. The BA Club World seat is the near perfect long haul business seat.It is comfortable, flat and spacious. The table slides easily to allow entry and exit without have to remove food or a notebook. The controls are easy to manage and out of the way enough not to be bumped mid flight.Sleeping is as good as I have experienced, mainly because the size of the seat allows for multiple sleeping positions. To be perfect the seat could be about 20 cm longer and 15 cm wider and maybe a little bit more cocooned. But then it would be a first class seat.
The Service
Score 0.5
BA are not in the class of Singapore Airlines for their attentiveness and detail but there is nothing worthy of a negative comment. Staff appear when requested and are eager to be a support.
The Food
Score 1.0
It seems mean to write the first thing that came to my mind when contemplating a review of the food on BA Club World.Anyway here it is.If you like English food you will love the food on BA Club World. My thought about the food is not meant to be as negative as that comment implies.Just like English restaurants are into their 10th year of a revolution to become some of the best in the world, so too BA have dramatically lifted the quality of their food.I was a bit disappointed with the cold/pre-plated dishes as on the whole they were dry and flavourless. But I enjoyed each of the mains presented. The Englishness of some of the servings was annoying (for example only marmalade is served with breakfast and I can’t stand the stuff).BA is the upper bracket with food. There are better airlines (ie Qantas) but BA has tipped over that point that turns a flight from manageable to enjoyable.
The Entertainment
Score 0.5
The BA video on demand system is neither remarkable nor sub-standard.It does what it is supposed to do – provide movies and TV on demand. However it behind competitors on the number of options available and some of the system functionalities. It is missing the huge breadth of Singapore Airlines (and the new United Airlines system for that matter) and the menu system is less intuitive. It takes longer with the BA system to look through the entire list of movies. This is all a software and content issues.BA would do well to upgrade.
The BOOT factor
Score 1.0
Just like BA led with the first fully flat bed (and podcasts on how to sleep) I have always liked and watch others try to copy the BA larder. The collection of food and drinks available for passengers to graze on at their leisure. It seems simple but I find easy access to a broad selection of fresh fruit ( and I admit it chocolate) makes for a great way to break up the tedium of 24 hours staring at a flicking screen.I also really like the laptop draw in the seat.If is large enough to fit everything I want at my fingertips during the flight – notebook, document wallet, book, iPod, toiletries.A little thing that makes a real difference.Only anti-BOOT factor is the size of the upstairs bathroom which I found cramped.
