Learn the Secrets Guru's Use to Create Low Cost Products
So, after much research, you have figured out what niche market you want to target with your home based business. Now, you aren't sure what product you want to sell. The truth is, the answer is easier to arrive at, and much less expensive to implement than you would imagine. Let's learn the secrets gurus use when creating a product.
In case you are wracking your brain trying to figure this out, relax. In fact, you probably have already guessed it. It's the dreaded ebook! The moaning and groaning is beginning now, but ebooks really aren't that bad! Ebooks have been around for years, but most people in your niche likely will have had only limited experience with them.
Why ebooks? They continue to be cool, and are viewed as cutting edge. They also are easy to create, inexpensive, can be developed quickly, and can be bought while you sleep. It doesn't get much better than that!
Now, the real secret to ebooks is . . . . Drum roll please! DON’T CREATE THEM! Now, if you are a professional writer or just love to write, then this article isn't for you. The rest of you, hang in here! The truth is there are much easier ways to create an ebook than trying to do it yourself. They are:
1. Have someone else do it for you or,
2. Legally steal someone else's book.
There are sites where you can post your projects, and where freelance writers can take a look, and make bids on your projects.
Tips to remember when you go to post your projects include the following:
1. Give as much detail as possible so that freelance writers know exactly what you want. Some writers will be so eager for your project that they will write up a sample chapter based on your information just to get your business. Make sure you also ask the bidder to sign a non-disclosure agreement. This information can be found on the site. You always must register, as well. Buyers can register for free.
2. Always ask bidders for writing examples; otherwise, who knows what fluff you might end up with!
3. Don't ever pay anyone until you have completely reviewed the final product.
With these tips in mind, now on to the second way to create an inexpensive ebook. If you remember, the second secret given was to legally steal someone else's book. How can this be done? The secret is using public domain materials. Anything published before 1923 in the United States is considered public domain. This means that no one owns the copyright of the material, and therefore, anybody can use it.
It gets even better than this. Some books published between 1923 and 1963 may be public domain material if the copyright was not renewed by the 28th year. To be on the safe side, it always advisable to consult a copyright attorney before publishing any work you might find. That said, there are membership sites on the web that have done all the work for you! You just pay a small monthly fee and get lots of great public domain material.
After you get your original book, you will want to have it scanned in digital format. When looking for a company to do this for you, keep these important points in mind:
1. Make sure they do not destroy the original book. The book needs to be returned to you.
2. The company needs to do more than just scan the book. The work has to be editable so you can add your own introduction.
3. There needs to be a week's turn around.
4. Work is kept confidential.
5. The fees are not unreasonable. Examples of approximate prices are:
1-100 pages-$100
101-300 pages-$150
301-500 pages-$200
501+Pages-$250
Now you know the secrets the gurus use to create low cost products for their niche markets. Your home based business can now explode!

How to win advertisers and influence ad competition
UPDATE: Sorry, the Onsite Advertiser Sign-up feature is no longer available.
For today’s optimization tip, I'd like to focus on a site targeting feature: Onsite Advertiser Sign-up. This enables advertisers to quickly and easily target cost-per-impression (CPM) ads specifically to your site, from your site.
As a publisher, you'll be automatically opted in to Onsite Advertiser Sign-up. You can also customize the landing page advertisers will see when they click on the ‘Advertise on this site’ link within your ad units. This is your opportunity to market your site to advertisers, so don’t settle for the default description – this won’t convince advertisers why they should site target you. Write a sharp and compelling paragraph to engage advertisers and let them know what your site’s all about.

You'll benefit when more advertisers sign up to advertise on your site, since more competition among ads means more money for you. Just remember - keep it advertiser-friendly!

Search no further than your own site
If you haven't tried our AdSense for Search feature yet, now might just be the perfect time to put it to use -- we're pleased to announce that you can now display AdSense for search results within your own site. This way, you have the freedom to offer users web search while still maintaining the look and feel of your site. For example, you can keep elements like the header, footer, and site navigation panel the same for the search results page you create.
To use it, just choose the "Open results within my own site" radio button when you're generating your AdSense for search code. You'll also need to identify the page where you'd like to display your search results.

We'll give you two sets of code: one for the search box, and one for search results. Place the first set on a page where you'd like the search box to appear, and the second set on the page you'd like the search results to appear. Whenever users perform searches on your AdSense for search box, they'll be directed to the page on which you placed the search results code.
Since this new feature is part of AdSense for search, any Competitive Ad Filter and site-flavored search settings will still function as normal. You can also find detailed instructions for implementing this new option in our Help Center. Keep in mind that if you want your existing search boxes to take advantage of the new feature, you'll need to replace the search box code that's currently on your pages.

Good news in Seattle - is that bad news for others
In line with the re-launch of Expedia in Australia, Expedia has announced its recent results and the news is good. Profit up 30%, sending the shares up 13% (though there is still a long way to go to recover from the decline over the last twelve months). This is on the back of better than expected results from both Priceline and Travelocity. Suddenly after a period of bad news from the big guys we are seeing a turn around. During the bad news period, start-ups appeared all over the place receiving funding for niche areas such as group, site comparisons (Kayak keeps raising money) and mashup/airline fare searches. Red Herring even started covering travel regularly again.
Now the bubble talk has started again. GigaOM asks the question - are their too many travel start-ups?
This is also playing out in Australia - though on a smaller scale. Local player Webjet has money to burn and is growing nicely. Local first mover Travel.com.au is improving quickly especially its operation of lastminute.com.au proving a huge success. Local leader Wotif has a mountain of money and huge brand reach. These local players are not yet challenged by the big guys but this is only a matter of time. Zuji has made a few marketing mistakes recently but has made a strong move it changing its branding to be more like its Dallas parent - I am betting on a name change within 12 months. Expedia is finally in Australia with a great looking product. Expedia first launched in Australia in 1997, closing six months later. New staff were appointed again in 2002 but it has taken years to settle the strategy and get the product right.
Watching this mini version of the huge battles in Europe and America play out is going to be great fun to watch.

Referrals around the world
Back in May, we launched our new and improved referral buttons. Now these new buttons are available for additional products and languages. You can choose from several different colors and options, and the buttons are in a sleeker, web-friendly GIF format -- all the better to blend in with your site.

Publishers have found that it’s most beneficial to place referrals where they're relevant. Do you run a photo blog? Try using a Picasa referral button. Looking to boost revenue for your web hosting site? Implement a Firefox referral button and watch your earnings grow.
Don’t forget you can also implement referrals in a text link format. Text links easily integrate into your site and often convert better than buttons. Here are a few tips on generating more revenue with text links:

If you’re not already displaying referrals on your site, you may be missing out! Publishers have let us know that they’ve seen an increase in earnings since they implemented the feature. One publisher with a history-related site told us, “I get 3,000 uniques a day, and was only making about $15/day with regular AdSense for content. Today, I tried Firefox referrals and beside my regular site income, I've already made an extra $17.20 -- and the day isn't over yet.”
Not only will you benefit from the extra earnings, but your users will learn more about other products such as Picasa, Firefox, and AdWords. To begin displaying the new referral buttons, simply choose Referrals from the AdSense Setup page of your account, then select the product you'd like to refer users to on your pages.

- You can endorse products you've enjoyed using and encourage your users to do the same.
- Use text links to integrate the ad more seamlessly within your site content.
- Try having the text links inherit the font and look of your site, so they fit in with your current text style and size.
