Have you heard of how gold was used in the olden days, dating back to the Egyptian times? Well we have all studied about gold being traded for gifts, etc. I sometimes wonder how valuable is a mere yellow metal, such that is it used to adorn or beautify many a things, even people. Women and men, both love flaunting this metal on themselves by wearing in the form of jewelry. This metal can never be undervalued by anything on earth. Though the price of gold in gold coins, gold bullion, or diverse forms still keep rising it is yet irreplaceable!
The gold price fixing used to take place at the offices of N M Rothschild & Sons in St Swithin's Lane twice a day but since may 2004 gold spot fixing takes place by telephone.
Gold is a great security for its users where their kids futures are concerned, it helps secure ones future in many ways like for old age, or maybe kids future education, etc. The gold prices fixing originally began by gold traders in September 1919 and are currently fixed in dollars, euros, and pounds. Did you know this? Also remember that spot gold is a term one can use to search for gold charts or current gold prices online.

God give Japan strength and courage to face the devastation caused by the Tsunami

The calamity that struck japan yesterday has left me kind of in deep thought. Watching it over TV i couldn't believe its happening somewhere in the world while most of us are sitting under the shelter of our homes watching how the tsunami played havoc with the city of japan. How it had destroyed and devastated the daily lives of those innocent beings, and i wonder why do natural calamities have to occur suddenly the world is at peace yet living their lives unknown to what is called fate... there must have been around hundreds of deaths and yet we can do nothing but pray for the souls of the deceased and pay our condolences to their families. But prayer in hour on need is what is most needed by those souls who have gone through the calamity and still coming to terms with their losses. May god give them strength to overcome the hard moments they spent yesterday and to courage to move on...

'Mermaid girl' Shiloh Pepin, dies aged 10

I couldn't believe when i saw this unusual sight because this is the first time i have seen a human mermaid. Shiloh, aged 10, looked so cheerful in the video right down, but now she is safer in the lords care. It is sad that this intelligent and beautiful little girl is no more. She died on Friday 23rd from a pneumonia following a cold and was hospitalized days prior to her death.
She was very famously known as the mermaid girl who was born with a rare condition called 'mermaid syndrome'. Her legs were fused together from the waist. She had no genital organs and only one kidney worked partially. At her birth, doctors assumed she wouldn't survive for more than hours or maybe days, but they were proven wrong and the little girl lived 10 years of her life in zest. In some cases the legs could be separated but Shiloh's surgery couldn't be done for her blood vessels that crossed from side to side in her circulatory system, could have been severed.
Its a happy/sad story, the whole of it from her birth till she dies. I'm overwhelmed with remorse right now.. she also had the privilege to feature on The Oprah Winfrey show
May her soul RIP.. and my thoughts and prayers to the family in these tough hours.

Happy fathers day to my father and all the fathers if the world
It's Fathers day today, and its celebrated in most parts of the world. Its a day to honor and commemorate fathers and forefathers which complements the mothers day( the day we honor our mothers). This is a special day to remember what our fathers have done for us as kids, they had worked effortlessly for our education and well being, put with all our tantrums etc.. and we realize that now that we, ourselves are parents and fathers. I mean, am not a father but i see how my kids have built a bond with theirs, i see how the kids and their father interact and that makes me reminisce my childhood.
There are many sweet and funny incidents i would like to talk about but for now i'll tell you just one.. i remember how he used to carry me around the table(a pretty large oval one) counting 1 to 100 just to get me to sleep while my mom was busy in other household chores! i wouldn't fall off to sleep unless the count almost ended, and dare he missed out numbers, i cried my guts out! haha.. i was big enough, yet that was the love and care he bestowed upon me as a growing child :-)
Life isn't always easy between fathers and their children and we sometimes pay less heed to their advice because we tend to think ourselves as independent. We think we don't need the little finger guidance anymore but actually we are never to big for our parents advice. Our fingers, no matter how big they grow shall always need the tender clench of guidance.. don't you think?
Today's the day, shower him with gifts of your love and care, he'll treasure forever because we owe it all to him. If you're in bad terms with your dad.. do go up to him and give him a huge hug and that should solve everything on this sweet and special day.
I'd like to wish my mine and all the fathers of the world, A happy fathers day with many more fathers day to come and a great, great life ahead.. :-)
If you feel like, please share an incident close to your heart in my comment box :-)

Now weddings vows can be exchanged on Romeo's lover, Juilet's balcony
Juliets balcony

Recently came across this piece of news which reported couples can now have themselves married on the balcony of Verona where Juliet called for her lover, Romeo. The move, could make the part of Italy a world famous wedding capital and tourist/weddings packages will be offered just like in La's Vegas. "Its a way of using the city's heritage to boost tourism" claims the councilor for tourism.
Those that wish getting hitched in the very same courtyard where once, Romeo wooed his lover Juliet, will have a price to pay. The privilege wont come cheap, but that's where those in hopes of getting lucky in love will flock to.. Price for Britons and other EU nations is will be charged 800 euros, and couples from out side the Eu will be charged a 1,000 euros! locals can pay as cheap as 6000 euros, still 100 euros less of ordinary marriages certificates in Italy.
Graffiti on Juliets balcony

This balcony is known as standing tall right from the 14th century which was Juliet's home, or possibly used as one of the capulates in Shakespeare's play and had to be closed a year ago to be cleaned of gum and graffiti left by the tourists on its walls.
"Sposami a Verona" Marry Me in Verona- that's what the whole plan to be hit off very soon is called. Accordingly to Shakespeare, the building belonged to the Cappellos- the Capulet's in play, who were believably juliet's family. However, historians claim authenticity to support the theory.

Mumbai- gearing up for the festive season after the city faced terror, few weeks back

So Mumbai is gearing up after that big attack which created huge havoc in the city few weeks ago, and fear in the hearts and minds of the mumbaikars. Not only Mumbai city but i think the whole of India is facing the same fear, who knows, anytime and anywhere? But what are the biggies(you know who?) doing about this? There was so much of pain everywhere, so many innocent deaths and for no reason were they targeted. What did they do to encounter an unruly death they couldn't have even imagined while stepping out of their homes. Its really very sad, and while watching the news on TV, my eyes watered in utmost fear and sadness at the mission being carried out to finish the enemy. It was very scary, yet touching to watch our armed forces handle the dangerous mission so fearlessly. No words can compare!
It is obviously noticed in recent times, India is being targeted like hell. Why? Is there no one to solve the much needed crucial matters instead of fighting like cats and dogs in the house of the speakers. One should watch them behaving like kids, which is definitely unacceptable and stupidity on their parts. They need to be discussing how to keep the city secure instead of poking into their own personal affairs. We, the ordinary people have to buck up and carry out safely measures on our own. Just like how Mandira Bedi, a celeb of the big and small screen lashed out and said that "we shouldn't pay our taxes when we aren't given security of our lives, we should do something for our safely first" How true??

Mumbai is home to the biggies, and is known as the city that never sleeps! I think the city is gathering their wits and courage to face reality and gear up for the festive season. The Taj, the same hotel where the bloody siege took place, has reopened since three weeks of the terror. Though people are trying, there will always be a fear in the heart, but for now, lets pray for the victims and mat rays whose lives were taken three weeks ago and hope the city is back to normal once again.

Amos Tamam - his journey and success
Trained as an electrical engineer at Tel Aviv University in Israel, Amos Tamam had to encounter a fresh start on his arrival to United States and he began servicing taxicabs in a fleet garage in New York City. Now, after 30 years he is the CEO of Verifone Transportation Systems, Inc. a division of the giant Verifone Corporation and the industry leader in providing the technology and systems that enable taxi fleets to accept credit card payments.
He possessed a great combination of technical ingenuity and an uncanny ability to develop the products and processes to solve problems for taxi fleet owners- from repairing taxis, to working on fleet management and its improvement for fleet owners. But his latest innovation of providing fleet owners with the ability to process credit cards using wireless technology won him all his fame and made him what he is known for today, his success!

Dayana Mendoza, Venezuela is Miss Miss Universe 2008
I read it in the papers, miss Venezuela, Dayana Mendoza 22 took away the crown at the miss universe held in Vietnam and she will now be the reigning queen for the whole of this year, as Miss universe 2008. I haven't watched the pageant this year but her photos are all over the net and you can see her stunning beauty, she did deserve the sparkling, white and yellow gold crown. Didn't she?
She was once kidnapped from her country, and even she admits that it was during those times that she had learned to be more calm in stressful times.
In the pictures, shes trying hard to hold back those happy tears while being crowned by the miss universe 2007. Congratulations from India, Dayana!!
What she does next.. shes going to travel the world to put forth her good intentions to help in charitable work and speak on humanitarian issues.
I'll update this post once there some more news out:)

A girl is born to Thomas Beatie, the controversial Pregnant man

The first pregnant man has given birth to a healthy baby girl. PLEASE don't get shocked or offended by this news, its true. Now for the story behind the birth- 10 years ago, Thomas Beatie 34 actually a transgender, had been born female but underwent operations to surgically remove his breast and legalized his male gender. He has been married to Nancy a 54 year old for five year now but since Nancy couldn't conceive a baby the couple went in for an insemination at home, even though there were oppositions from doctors.
He was under Hormone therapy and lived as a man, but his desire and intention to father a child one day, got him to retain his female organs. "I feel it's not a male or female desire to have a child. It's a human need. I'm a person and I have the right to have a biological child" he told the Oprah Winfrey Show.
Beatie was a former beauty pageant contestant and was pregnant with triplets before, but dangerous complications compelled him into an abortion, as told by him to 'The Advocate', a U.S. magazine for gays, lesbians and transgender people.
'We're so excited. I just cannot wait to hold her in my arms and be a father. I can't believe she's inside me. She's our little miracle. I'm looking forward to holding her for the first time, to finally get to touch her and see her face.'
'I feel it's not a male or female desire to have a child,' he argued. 'It's a human need. I'm a person and I have the right to have a biological child. I have a very stable male identity.'
'Love makes a family and that's all that matters,' he said as he explains that he will be dad and Nancy will be mom, and they plan to make a happy home for the baby. Both are legally married as Thomas is legally male.
Three months ago, the pregnancy caused headlines when the story was out in the open, now the father and daughter have once again stormed headlines with the news of the 'pregnant mans baby'. Pictures of the baby are expected to fetch them as estimated £500,000!!
This makes me wonder if there is still place for Angelina, on television and newspapers.. Can i hear Brangelina scream??? ;)

Andrew Wilshire - Part 01
Who said success cant be reached within a short span of time.. with an ability to work hard and prove your skills, success will be yours in no time. Just like the motivational story of Mr Andrew Wilshire, a investment adviser recruited by Beddows Commodities Inc. Mr.wilshire's predictions/analysis were being generated to several large commodity traders in 1997, when he began his own investment newsletter. Within two years, he was generating commissions worth millions of dollars from fast-growing brokerage house with more than 25 brokers, his previous venture being just a small financial newsletter.
Over the years, a large number of successful enterprises were being run by this man, all this accomplishment by his use of expertise as an adviser in finance and technology. His early success came from his ability to provide solutions, as in raising capital and applying technology, to financial markets and his most important the ability to use a combination of his vast experiences and the internet's marketing power to reach audiences near and far. Now there's no turning back for Mr.Wilshire, and the same can be your faith one day. So, does this story motivate you in any way? am sure it does:)

Bird flu alert in calcutta, chicken off your platter?
So we're flashing on every news channel! But whats all the hype about? well its Bird flu this time in Calcutta, from where i belong.. and not a good time for all the calcuttans who are compelled to quit consuming poultry(sigh).. imagine chicken and eggs being excluded from our meals! how cruel is this, just like some curfew, like everything has gone haywire! i cant think of any alternative to replace the taste of poultry and eggs, i cant feed that to baby Alisha who doesn't seem to be interested in any food except eggs! when will the chickens be back safely?
Few days ago West Bengal birds were found to be carrying the H5N1 virus which can cause avian influenza in humans.. WB had appealed to all other states to help cull up chickens suspected of having the disease.19 districts were supposed have been affected, with a population of 24 million.. phew!
Nepal is said have banned poultry imports from India.. Bangladesh fears an outbreak too.
So what is bird flu?
Avian influenza is an infectious disease of birds caused by type A strains of the influenza virus. All birds are thought to be susceptible to the avian influenza, though some species, such as wild ducks, are more resistant than others. Domestic poultry, such as chickens or turkeys, are particularly susceptible.
How does it effect people?
Avian influenza does not normally infect species other than birds and pigs. But humans came down with the bird flu in Hong Kong in 1997, when the H5N1 strain infecting 18 humans, 6 of whom died.
Genetic studies showed the virus jumped directly from birds to humans, and caused severe illness with high mortality.
What are the symptoms, can it be tested and how do you treat it?
When humans came down with H5N1 bird flu in Hong Kong in 1997, patients developed symptoms of fever, sore throat, cough and, in several of the fatal cases, severe respiratory distress secondary to viral pneumo
Antiviral drugs, some of which can be used for both treatment and prevention, are clinically effective against influenza A virus strains in otherwise healthy adults and children, but have some limitations
I just want people to be cautious, as prevention is better than cure.. dont you agree?
