SPARTACUS CHALLENGE SUCCESS STORY – AWAT AND HIS SILVER BULLET

AWAT BEFORE
AWAT AFTER - RIPPED & RARING TO GO!

I have received a lot of great success stories of people losing weight using my 4 Week Spartacus Workout Challenge, but Awat was one of the first people to tell me about how he gained some weight and became more muscular incorporating the Spartacus Workout , supplements and good nutrition.

Awat is one of my closest friends; in fact I was the best man at his wedding in Costa Rica last month. Awat, a former professional volleyball player, has always been in shape and active, but knowing that he was getting married in Costa Rica and would be travelling throughout the country, he wanted to look the best he has ever been.

He called me about 6 weeks from the wedding and said, “Funk, Kim and I want to be in the best shape of our lives for our wedding, can you please give us a workout and nutrition plan.”

But Awat mentioned to me that he wanted to gain more muscle and still be ripped, and Kim wanted to lose some weight and look toned. I wanted to make sure that supplementation was a big part of Awat’s plan, because with the stress of planning the wedding and putting the body through these intense workouts, the supplements that I suggested were to help build strength, add muscle, recuperate and detoxify.

Enter the 4 Week Spartacus Workout Challenge. I told him to use the challenge and stay close to the supplements and nutrition plan. The one supplement that made an incredible difference in adding size and strength for Awat was Silver Bullet (Kre-Alkalyn). Awat told me that from day one when he started taking Silver Bullet, he could feel and notice a difference, In fact he even mentioned that the Spartacus workouts seemed to be getting easier for him, even though they were getting more challenging.

Awat has taking creatine supplements before with no success, but Silver Bullet, had no negative side effects like bloating or upset stomach, and before long, Awat was uber-impressed. I also use Silver Bullet and it makes a noticeable difference from the start. It is the best supplement I have ever used.

Fast forward to the day before we left for Costa Rica – I was excited to see the gains that Awat made so as soon as I got to his place, I told him to show me the goods.

Holy S*^%!!!!!!!.....That was all I could say.

Awat looked incredible, the best I have seen him in 20 years. Absolutely ripped and the muscular. He told me he did the Spartacus Workout Challenge, added some of his own exercises, took the supplements I suggested, and stuck to a clean nutrition plan. Kim looked amazing as well. Just check out the pics.

Congratulations Awat and Kim on all your hard work and Wedding!

Hey guys, if you want to add some muscle while doing the Spartacus Workout, include the Silver Bullet supplements and stick to the nutrition plan. It works...Awat is living proof.

Transformation or Irrelevance?

A reader weighs in with a keen observation:
Yes, on first read "nice". But that one sentence should be read in the context of the larger passage that McLeod quotes.

It turns out that the "transformative implications" that Moe and Chubb refer to include offering "new career paths" to teachers (a rather weird extension of freeing them "from their tradition-bound classroom roles"), "sophisticated data systems" (the intent here is most certainly not to Twitter) for making "education" more effective, and lowering the operating costs of schools by employing technology instead of teachers.

I doubt that this blog, that consistently presents the case for the use of digital technologies within a truly humanist educational perspective, really sees those issues as representative of the desired transformation.

I dare say that teachers have both 'careers' and 'vocations' and that the two are not necessarily the same. That doesn't mean I agree or disagree with the authors, but certainly in light of the 'transformative shift', there are all sorts of 'transformative implications'.

And I do think that this means the careers of teachers are before long going to take a very different shape and offer very different possibilities for the act of teaching itself (not to mention the even more important act of learning). But, as the reader surely knows, such has been the case throughout the history of teaching and intellectual transmission from the Stoa to the University.

One last thought: I do think that teachers and schools in general would be wise to learn something from the example of what has happened over the past ten years in the music industry. Or face a similar irrelevance.

FITNESS SUCCESS STORY FROM PAKISTAN

Pictured above Abdul Rahim before and after

Abdul Rahim

Hey my name is Abdul Rahim and I joined gym last summers in May. I was fat and not in shape, you cannot imagine. My weight was 97kg and now its 82kg. My age is 17.5 and height 6'2. Funk Roberts has helped me a lot in losing weight, getting in shape and getting big arms. He is really a good guy and God bless him.

Here is a great testimonial and success story from Abdul, who lives in Pakistan. Through Facebook, Abdul and I usually speak 2-3 times per week. He asks me everything about fitness, workouts, exercises, supplements, cardio…you name it, he’s asked it. A very tenacious and determined young man.

He only started working out last year and through his hard work and determination this guy is becoming the (BMOC) BIG MAN ON CAMPUS.

His goal is to get HUUUUUUGE! -

Great job Abdul and keep it up.

Really thinking about transformation...

Boom! Nice.
It would be impossible for the information revolution to unfold and not have transformative implications for how children can be educated and how schools and teachers can more productively do their jobs.

Video Communication Applications in Healthcare

Just as architecture has the power to transform a skyline, create new vistas and reshape the horizon -- so technology has the power to redefine healthcare, that's the theme of this year's HIMSS09 conference and exhibition in Chicago, Illinois this week.

Cisco video technology was featured in the AT&T Telepresence Solution booth on the exhibition floor. Visitors to the live video demo described their perspective on potential new applications, and Wendy Bohling, Senior VP at Magpie Healthcare had a more profound point of view. She said, regarding the business impact, "Telepresence changes and differentiates a hospital."

Quest to Improve the Patient Experience
Enhancing communication capabilities in healthcare can be equated to the potential for productivity and cost-reduction benefits, which are clearly valued. However, perhaps the emerging opportunities will now also focus on patient safety and the overall patient experience.

A recent study, conducted by Zogby International, sheds new light on the heavy toll that communication lapses take on patient care, clinical efficiency and the overall ability of nurses to do their job. More than 250 practicing nurses were surveyed. They included those in medical-surgical, emergency room, operating room, and critical care or intensive care unit service.

The Key Survey Findings Include:

Improving "people-to-people connections" offers the greatest potential for progress. The primary issue centered on the opportunity to improve communications among care team members. The time that nurses spend chasing other people to get answers was twice as great as the time they spend locating other resources.
  • When asked how many minutes per shift are typically spent "chasing other people to get answers," up to 86 percent of respondents estimated wasting as much as two hours per shift.
  • When asked about information needed to improve communication, 48 percent of nurses surveyed said, "care team availability and location" is most needed from a communications device at the point of care.
  • In an open-ended question about the most significant challenge that a nurse's communications device could address, 56 percent of nurses said, "better communication between staff."
  • About 60 percent of nurses in the study estimate they work up to 10 hours of overtime each week due to time wasted or lost trying to communicate with other staff.
If the visitor comments at the AT&T Telepresence demonstrations are an indication of an emerging trend, then the opportunities for hospital administrators, and other healthcare industry leaders, to apply the latest managed or hosted service offerings certainly looks very promising. Clearly, IT transformation is a rising priority.

Transforming Government Through Next Generation Technology

Governments everywhere are struggling with unprecedented challenges. They're expected to reignite a global economy in free-fall, while grappling with crumbling infrastructure, aging populations, declining quality in education and healthcare -- plus a heightened social concern about preserving the environment.

All in a budgetary environment of declining tax revenues.

Like the private sector, governments are now turning to technology to help them to improve both the delivery of government services and to promote overall economic growth.

Building 21st Century Economies
Like the waterways and highways of previous centuries, government leaders recognize they must create essential tech infrastructure to fuel innovation-led growth and prosperity. High-speed broadband is seen as a catalyst for encouraging economic development. However, meaningful services are required to stimulate demand.

For example, Germany has committed €4.6 Billion to install Telepresence capabilities throughout its schools -- to improve the quality of its education system, while reducing costs.

Similar to the access of electricity and the telephone, governments recognize the social equity of providing broadband access to everyone. Thereby using technology to improve the quality of inner-city schools, encourage more telecommuting and increase the productivity of rural economies.

Delivering 21st Century Public Services
There are significant opportunities for progressive governments to:
  • Reduce Costs of Delivery – delivering online services, collaboration tools, and video, not only lowers costs to serve but enhances the overall customer experience.
  • Empower Citizens – employing Web 2.0 capabilities, such as collaboration and social networking, allows citizens to more easily interact with their government.
  • Improve Levels of Service – Kiosks, Telepresence units, or VoIP enabled call centers for 311 calls, raises service levels and the overall experience.
Creating 21st Century Governments
Both taxpayers and public servants now recognize that the business of government must evolve, and that technology plays a critical role in this transformation. Likewise, technology providers can choose to partner with governments on this journey.

Research by Cisco IBSG (the company's strategic consulting arm) reveals that the public sector has a number of unique requirements:
  • Funding Models – providers must find creative new ways to pay for the new technologies, such as managed services and public-private partnerships.
  • Skill Shortages – hiring freezes and lack of skills, means that governments require significant help in design, implementation and management of technology.
  • Integrated Solutions – across multiple departments and levels of government, but also with not-for-profits, agencies, multiple partners and other parties.
  • Innovation – the private sector can proactively bring new and innovative solutions to legacy problems -- seeding the transformation.
Managed Services offers a proven way to help transform government for the 21st Century. However, service providers will need to recognize the unique needs of the public sector and to partner with the champions of progress, to address their most pressing challenges.

Transforming Healthcare with Creative IT Solutions

Healthcare is constantly in the spotlight as aging populations, technological advances and high-costs threaten the very fabric of the current system. Healthcare providers and insurers are under constant social, political and shareholder pressure to both improve quality of delivery and lower operational costs.

To proactively evolve, forward-looking insurers and providers need to focus on:
  • Access -- ensuring that patients are properly insured and the facilities are available to treat them;
  • Affordability -- driving down costs across all parts of the system;
  • Quality -- ensuring quality and successful treatment outcome;
  • Sustainability -- focus on managing labor force resources and green issues.
New Approaches to Technology Driven Transformation
Despite being an industry heavily dependant on the use of the latest in medical technologies, healthcare has traditionally been slow to use information technology and services to improve their business processes. Healthcare has some of the most stringent concerns about privacy and security, and regulatory constraints. It is a highly fragmented industry, with over 70% of healthcare typically dispensed by autonomous professionals.

This unique industry structure has resulted in both a lower uptake of technology and the desire for high-cost in-house IT development and operation. Research by Cisco IBSG (the company's strategic consulting arm) reveals that this is beginning to change.

To-date most of the focus has been on using information technology to address the eHealth, or patient records issue, with mixed results. In contrast, Cisco IBSG believes that implementing next generation managed services, outside of the clinical area, can have a significant transformational impact.

Creative Solutions for Challenging Times
We are now seeing both healthcare providers and insurers exploring the potential benefits of managed services to streamline their operations and to improve the overall customer experience. Insurers are eager to encourage competition amongst providers, to drive down costs.

IBSG research indicates insurers are experimenting with using healthcare-specific telepresence solutions to remotely deliver healthcare, reducing costs and improving the overall customer experience.

For example, United Healthcare recently installed a HealthPresence managed service at Cisco's main San Jose, California campus. This allows employees to conveniently access medical support at their place of work, and enables United Healthcare to deliver it using less expensive medical resources in a more streamline process.

Healthcare providers are using managed services to address the cost and quality impacting issues. A hospital wide wireless RFID solution allows caregivers to quickly locate wheelchairs, trolleys and critical equipment, saving not just time and money, but often someone's life. Similar examples exist with locating doctors, identifying their availability, and across other parts of the medical supply chain.

Healthcare providers need to compete on service quality and loyalty. Providers are turning to next generation managed services as a means to enhance their offerings. For example, hospitals are using telepresence kiosks to create in-house concierge services to aid both patients and visitors to improve their overall hospital experience.

Transforming healthcare is going to require radical change. Managed services outside of the traditional clinical area have great potential. However, service providers must work with both insurers and healthcare organizations -- across all aspects of their business -- to develop unique IT solutions that help them to deliver lasting business advantage, and reduce operational costs.

How to Enable the IT to BT Transformation

According to Forrester Research, as technology becomes integral to all types of commercial offerings and associated business strategy, the traditional model of IT as an independent and monolithic entity is clearly obsolete.

A proven Business Technology (BT) model will replace IT's legacy orientation -- with a focus on providing business value through process-governed services, measured in business-relevant terms.

Forrester believes that all business professionals should understand what is driving the shift from traditional IT -- as well as the key challenges around strategy, process, and culture when implementing BT practices.

So, how do you avoid the mistakes of the past, and pro-actively transform your IT capability to address today's apparent challenges? Forrester offers three key suggestions.

Deliver services and value, not hardware and software
IT's traditional focus on system components means that it has neglected to maximize business-relevant services for its internal customers. This piecemeal approach led to excessive complexity and redundancy.

In contrast, BT convergence is meant to align or better synchronize disparate processes and technologies into integrated services that provide value to the business user.

Organize around holistic processes and a lean culture, not silos
Instead of allowing low-level tactical responses to proliferate, BT relies on a broader view of IT processes in order to make decisions that maximize value for business users.

This process shift must often be accompanied by a culture change. Lean methodologies and behaviors shed the traditional IT use of one-off workarounds in favor of continuous aggregation, experimentation, and learning that keep sight of overall business objectives.

Measure performance with business-relevant metrics, not IT assets
BT also means stronger performance management systems. IT has traditionally focused on providing resources that sometimes don't have a clear impact on business outcomes.

As an example, server availability and capacity utilization, while important, are not relevant to business executives. By replacing technical benchmarks with metrics like alignment to business strategy and IT spend ratio, the BT model enables decision makers to objectively consider business cases for the inherent value they provide.

Estella's Amazing Body Transformation

This is Estella Hom. We met at Sgt Shanahan's Bootcamp where she has been coming since July and has become one of our senior trainees. She is a huge inspiration to me. I love to see people transform their bodies and lifestyles with hard work and dedication. You will read that this was not done overnight - there was No Rushing the Beat here. And look at the results...
Estella will be contributing to the Funk Roberts Fitness Blog and Newsletter on an on-going basis. You can also check out her blog for great fitness, diet tips and inspiration - http://estellahom.blogspot.com/

Here is her story as told by Estella.

I used to be fat. After 4 years of university and having spent endless, soul-sucking hours in front of a computer, combined with poor eating habits, I earned my Bachelor of Design Degree...and gained 20lbs in the process. Definitely not your ideal combination.

That before picture was me back in September 2004 at 175lbs, size 12-13 and probably 25% body fat - YIKES! I knew I had to make a change and so began the journey. I joined a gym, hired a personal trainer, who i trained with for about a year and lost 10lbs. Most of my workouts consisted of using weight machines in the gym and not much cardio. Then i met Ryan Shanahan, creator of the Energy Flow Workout and trainer to the stars. He gave me one of my first major design gigs, became my new trainer, and we've been working out ever since. With innovative, forward thinking workout moves involving exercise balls, kettlebells, resistance bands, and body weight (plyometrics), his workouts are fun, challenging and guaranteed to burn the fat and keep it off. I lost 30lbs, gained muscle tone, have reached elite athlete status and feel like I'm in the best shape of my life!

Today i weighed in, got my measurements taken and was amazed by the results.

weight: 140lbs (from 135lbs) - gained 5 lbs
arms: 10.8" (from 10.5") - gained muscle here *woohoo!*
legs: 20.5" (from 21.5) - yay, smaller thighs!

The most surprising change was that my body fat went from 14% to 11.5%!

Next goals:1. ripped abs
2. smaller thighs - 18"
3. 10% body fat

All to be done by AUGUST 1st.

How am i going to achieve this feat? I'm going to continue doing my usual cardio & resistance training routine, go to Sgt Shanahan's Boot Camp and make some changes with my eating.

Watch for updates on healthy meal ideas and progress reports...
