There's always money....

...in the lemonade stand.

This weekend is the annual St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish Polish Festival. The youth group will be running a lemonade stand, and a cotton candy stand. All the proceeds will be going to offset costs for the March for Life.

Not only will you be able to get some great lemonade and cotton candy (alright, so I have no idea where this stuff is coming from; nor have I ingested any so as to make any claim or representation as to its yummy-ness.) and support the youth group, and their mission to make their voices heard in Washington, D.C. this January!

As a born and bread Michigan boy, who wears a Old English D hat out hunting bears... I live and die with the Wings and Tigers, so you have to believe me when I say I am literally SICK about the call... I had other emotions tonight, but you wouldn't understand, unless you know how I feel tonight.

 No matter what happens in the coming days... the game will always be more of a spectacle than what it should be - a historical gem of baseball lore.

I don't want to talk about the call, replays, what could be done, what should be done or anything like that. Other blogs, every sports site, and most major news outlets will cover it. I don't want to talk about the umpire, the commissioner, or anyone like that.

Instead,  I want to talk about only one person... the pitcher. Not what he did... because it was for sure... perfect... In fact, some are calling it the only 28 out perfect game ever. (He ended getting the next batter out.)

I want to talk about what he said after the game:

"He feels really bad, probably worse than me," said Galarraga, who began the season in the minors in Toledo. "I give a lot of credit to that guy, to say he's sorry. I gave him a hug. His body English said more than the words. Nobody's perfect, everybody's human."

Class act, I can't think of a more honorable way to react. After the runner was called safe, Galarraga just smiled in disbelief. This was before he saw all the replays... so to respond this way, AFTER seeing the replays... you can't get any more classy than that.

In the days to come the league may do something special to rectify this situation, they might install instant replay, and we will surely see many more replays, but it won't change what happened... this night will always be special, but tainted.

One other thing that won't change is the way that Galarraga acted after the game... and no one can take that away from him. No one. And it was... well, perfect.

The Stupak Bandwagon

Ok so as a Pro-Life warrior, and as Catholic Americans we have all be quite supportive of Rep. Stupak and quite impressed. There is still some cause to doubt him though based on some remarks he made in October.

Now there is a rumor he may make a run for Michigan Governor and a lot of Catholics seem to be on board based solely on his Pro-Life record which isn't pristine.

Now I know that Michigan is in a sad and desperate place. Trust me, I know. I moved 4300 miles away because of it. But should we jump on Team Stupak right away? There are some advantages:

• Seemingly Pro-Life (See Above)
• His vacant Congressional seat would most definitely be filled by a conservative
• Governors play an important role in terms of state legislation which is good for the pro-life battle

What isn't clear is exactly WHAT he would be as a governor. He only scores a 50% rating on the National Right to Life scorecard. He also has other issues which make his running  a little worrisome. 

He might be a Democrat worth voting for, but I think it is a little too early, especially since his pro-life record has some major blemishes in it.

On top of that Michigan needs a strong fiscal conservative, someone willing to get the state back on track economically. Jobs are evaporating faster than water in the Sahara and the Auto Market is a farce now that D.C. owns 2/3 of it. So the question becomes whether we should jump on Team Stupak now, or should we wait a little to see where he falls on other policies? If a strong pro-life conservative comes to play (which there seem to be a few in the running) Stupak might not shine as brightly.
