HOW TO START A RUNNING PROGRAM

SUPPORT OUR FIT FIRM N FAB TEAM - CLICK HERE!

IMPROVE THE HEALTH OF YOUR HEART

Look no further than a pair of great running shoes. Running can be one of the most exhilarating forms of cardio. Reducing your heart rate is the best way that you can improve your heart health. The average person has a resting heart rate of 72 beats/minute. What’s yours?

Since its fall, stay off the treadmill in the gym and hit the trails or quieter streets in your neighbourhood. Asphalt provides greater cushion for your knees so avoid running on the sidewalk if at all possible.

If you are a beginner to the sport, try walking for 1 minute, then running for 1 minute. Alternate between walking and running for a total of 15 minutes.

The following week increase the running time to 2 minutes (while still alternating with 1 minute of walking), the next week, run for 3 minutes, then 4, then 5 minutes the 5th week.

Once you feel comfortable running for 5 minutes, you’ll be okay to run 15 minutes straight. You can increase your distance by 10% each week.

Don’t increase your distance by more than 10% or you’ll risk injury.

Most importantly give yourself regular goals so that you can continually achieve success. To that end, join the Fit, Firm ‘n Fab Run For The Cure Team on Sun. Oct. 3rd for a 5K run and a great cause. Join the team here: www.runforthecure.com/goto/fitfirmandfab

See you out for a run!

THINK ABOUT THIS EQUATION THOUGHTS + EMOTION + ACTION = RESULTS

post by Davelle Morrison

So what is this equation really about?

It’s a concept introduced to me by Bob Proctor in The Expressions of Your Power CD. It can help you to achieve a healthy active lifestyle.

Notice how your positive or negative thoughts guide you throughout your day to make good or bad decisions. Remember what you put into your body mentally is just as important as what you put into your body nutritionally.

Changing your thinking to be positive around health, fitness & nutrition will lead you to have a happy emotion associated with a healthy body.

That positive emotion will lead you to start acting on your vision of a healthy lifestyle which in turn will lead you to achieving the results that you want with a life more focused on health, nutrition & fitness.

What you feed your mind is extremely important. Meditation can play a crucial role here as you learn to take at least 10 minutes of silence everyday where you simply sit and breathe. Develop positive sayings which can re-enforce the positive energy around you.

My positive thoughts & emotions around health & fitness have now lead me toward achieving my goals of a healthy body. Think of organizing (your action) your week on a calendar so that you can ensure that you have time for meditation, yoga, workouts & healthy food preparation.

A little organization will go a really long way in helping you to achieve your Fit, Firm ‘n Fab goals.

I set aside Sunday evenings to prepare fruits & vegetables in 5 containers for each day of the week to ensure that I eat healthy everyday at the office. I also prepare my lunches for the week at that time.

My results are incredible. For the 2-3 hours of time I’ve put in, I’ve not only saved myself at least $100/week ($400 a month & $3,600/year!), I’ve saved myself a ton of calories in the process which helps to keep my weight down. A great result indeed!

See what you can do to help your positive thoughts & emotions lead you to act and gain better results.

HOW TO FIND THE RIGHT YOGA FOR YOU

If you are looking for a yoga class, but can’t find one that you like, or you want to try a yoga class but don’t know where to start?

I’m going to help you get off on the right foot.

There are many yoga classes out there that all have different approaches which is great for you, because you can find the one that suites you needs.

Yoga classes can cater to personality, athletics needs and even injuries.

Here are a few suggestions to help you find the right yoga class for you.

Type A Person – someone who is highly competitive aggressive and have difficulty relaxing then, you might try an Ashtanga or hot yoga class like Moksha or Bikram. You will know what to expect.

Type B Person – someone who is more relaxed, disengaged, you may try Hatha, Iyengar, Kundalini which focus slow stretches

As you can see this is just a start but there are different classes for different people, you just have to start attending some classes to experiment to find the one that suits you.

7 BENEFITS OF YOGA

1. Reduces stress levels; Stress is the major cause of most serious illnesses

WANT TO REDUCE YOUR WEIGHT AND ILLNESS FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY?

FOOD, INC. REVIEW by Davelle Morrison

As a wise computer nerd once said to me if my computer had broken down, think GIGO. Garbage In, Garbage Out. This week I’ll use this in the context of what we put in our bodies. The reality is that I have friends that mock my fondness for eating healthy, however, they seem to catch colds far easier than I do.

The more that we use good quality ingredients in your meals and avoid fast food, the better off we all are. This weekend, I went to see the film Food Inc.

To a foodie like myself, this was the equivalent of seeing a horror film. To see how meat is processed in U.S. factories is truly horrifying to a carnivore such as myself. My only saving grace is that I only purchase organic meat when I cook at home. This movie gave me every encouragement that I need to continue doing so.

The truly sad part in this movie was watching a low-income family visit their local fast food restaurant where they would feed the family for less than $20.

They simply couldn’t justify spending $2.00 on a couple of pears at the grocery store because they could buy a burger for $1.00 at a fast food restaurant. Unfortunately the short term choices that we make can affect us in the long term.

The patriarch of this family now suffers from Type 2 Diabetes forcing the family to spend an additional $230 per month for diabetes medication with the added possibility that he may go blind and be rendered unable to work.

Had they spent the money earlier on better food and cooked more and home, they would not be facing these grim circumstances.

I can’t stress enough that if you want to stay healthy, avoid illness & lose weight spend the additional dollars now and buy organic meat, cheese, milk & eggs.

Don’t wait until you or a loved one have a serious healthy issue before you start to believe in GIGO. Treat your body more like a temple instead of an amusement park.

THE BENEFITS OF HIP OPENING EXERCISES

Making sure your hips are open & well stretched can lead to better walking & running. Your hips are one of the largest joints in your body.

Not only are your hips at the base of your spine but the hip joint controls movements in your thigh bone (femur) which means that at times when you experience knee problems, they can be caused by a lack of openness at the hip joint.

Bottom line – incorporate some hip opening moves into your stretching as a preventative measure.

Hip opening exercises can include:

A cobbler’s pose where you sit on the floor with your feet touching, back straight, knees splayed outward.

or even a simple squat where your feet are shoulder-width part and you almost sit down so that your butt is very close to the ground with your hands together in a prayer position and your elbows and your arms are pushing your knees further apart.

These simple exercises can help you to open your hip joint and help you maintaining your healthy lifestyle.

Want To Inject New Life Into Your Workout?

Take a break! Yes that’s right. Give yourself a one-week holiday from your workout routine. It’ll make you enjoy your workouts that much more when you return to your routine. While you’re off for the week, think of a new activity that you can incorporate into your schedule.

It will give you a new goal to work toward. When I give myself the one-week-workout-holiday, it reinvigorates my workouts and allows me to work harder when I return. Try the one-week workout break every 3 to 4 months.

REDUCE THE RISK OF ANXIETY

WANT TO REDUCE THE RISK OF ANXIETY, DIABETES, HEART ATTACKS & FLUCTUATIONS IN YOUR METABOLISM AS YOU AGE?

Just breathe more effectively to reduce your stress levels.

Making exercise a part of your life can help to reduce your risk to serious illness. The meditative breathing skills taught during a yoga class are a great way to learn how you can incorporate these breathing techniques in & out of the class.

Learning to take slow gradual breaths can help to reduce the constant stress that your body is under. A little concentrated breathing can help make great strides towards improving your overall health. Make time for a yoga class in your routine.

Want to Lose More Weight This Year?

Get more sleep.

According to studies published by the Journal of the American Medical association, sleep loss increases your hunger during the day and affect your body’s metabolism. According to Women’s Health, people who slept at least 7 hours a night were less likely to put on weight than those who didn’t.

How can you enjoy a better night’s sleep?

Add a yoga class into your workout routine. Yoga’s soothing poses and breathing will contribute to helping you achieve a good night’s sleep. During your yoga class, you’ll learn some great breathing exercises and poses which will help you get a better night’s sleep which will help you to achieve your weight loss goals.
